Warmer Oil temperature with Procede?
Hey everyone,
I installed the Procede on my E90 manual/sport early today. I just returned from driving under varying conditions for about 2 hours. The temperature here is 81F. I almost immediately noticed something different (other than the power increase). My oil temperature used to be rock steady at 210 or a mark over 210. Now, my oil temperature is stable at about 240. The temperature increases a bit with hard driving but rapidly settles back to 240 when you let up. I will take it autocross racing within the next month or two to see how much the temperatures increases under those conditions. Has anyone else noticed an oil temperature increase after installing the Procede? I am not worried about the temperature increase because I have the factory oil cooler and I don't plan to track my car much. However, I am curious if anyone else has encountered this phenomenon. And just in case the "doubters" hit this thread, yes, I am certain the temperature increased. I have been watching the temperature like a hawk for the past month due to all of oil temperature threads. Thanks! |

As I said, I am not worried about my car running 240. I think that is a perfectly reasonable temperature. I was simply wondering if anyone else had seen an increase in temperatures after installation of the Procede. [/worry] Thanks! |

Well, just today I was pushing the car hard (changed from winters to summer tires), going up a steep hill, hard. Temps went up to 240-250 in a short (30-45 seconds) amount of time. Seems to get to 240-250 pretty easily when not baby-ing the car. Sounds like its because you were pushing it with the procede that the temps went up.
And I'm stock...for now :-) (Shiv, I'm one of those guys dying for the cheaper version. I won't be doing exhausts or anything else. Didn't on the chipped S4, won't here).

I did over 20 0-60 runs back to back tonight and about 10 runs in the temp peaked and held at 245. With normal driving the needle stays at 235.

Mine is always at 235 - 240 when it's properly warmed up.

Yep, my temperature has now also stabilized at 240. I just thought that it was weird that it increased. It is rock solid at 240 so far and doesn't increase, so I am perfectly happy with it.
By the way, the acceleration in second gear when you punch it at about 20 is quite impressive now

Temperatures at that level could easily blow an engine if they continue. Not to mention that the highest rated temperature for the BMW oil (Castrol) is 331 degrees. If the temperature at the gauge is 300 it could easily be the case that oil in the engine is hotter than the maximum allowed temperature. Good luck!
