Most (all?) dealers will not patch a runflat. Do you have the wheel and tire insurance? If not, you might want to take it to an independent garage and see if they will patch it. Only do this if you haven't driven any significant distance on the low tire, however. Otherwise, the tire is trash.

Correct. If you know that the tire pressure never went below about 20psi then the tire internals are probably fine and the RFT can be patched just like a "normal" tire.

The reason that dealers won't patch them is that they cannot know if the internals were damaged. It is evident when a normal tire is damaged but not obvious with a RFT.

If you know that the tire is OK then go to a tire place to get it patched.

If you have tire insurance then go to the dealer.

Before you have to start replacing nailed runflats once a month, do yourself a favor and get rid of the runflats. I will be doing that this week.

I plugged a runflat from a nail and it lasted another 15k miles. The dealer will most likely not plug it or patch it. take it to a gas station and for 20$ bucks let them do it. The dealer will sucker you into buying a new tire.

Like the others have said, the Dealership will not patch your RFT. You can purchase a tire patch kit at your local auto repair store and do it yourself or you can most likely bring it to a wheel/tire shop and they should be able to help you out.

THANK YOU ALL FOR SUCH A GREAT/HELPFUL RESPONSE. To answer all of you:

1.)No, i do not have a tire insurance, thus BMW won't cover that. I ended up not bring it to BMW.

2.)My two options are: get it patch (because tire is still DARN good) and get a replacement tire that is not a "runflat". with both of those options, i know the consequences --> if something happen i'm screwed bcoz i don not have spare.

I have asked around BMW, mom n' pop tire shop, most of them will charge me $500 out the door for just ONE freakin' tire.

Again, i appreciate all of your response. you guys are the best. any further comment/adivce would be appreciated.

I got a nail on the right rear a few months ago. Made the mistake of taking it to the dealer ... roughly $465 later, and that was with a $50 coupon, I had a new tire. I replaced all 4 today with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS Plus, and an M Mobility Emergency Tire Repair Kit.

Had three nails in mine. Two at the same time in both the rears. Anyway had them all plugged and had no issues whatsoever. Ran them into the ground until time to replace. Paid about $15 per tire/incident so very low cost.

The fastest I went was about 60 for a few miles. I didn't wait long to get them plugged so it was not that long of a drive for me especially living in Hawaii.
