n52 v n53

A newbie question.

Bought a used E90 330i manufactured in 2008 and first registered in HK in April 2008. I was told that the engine had an output of 272 bhp.

Brought in the car for a service at the dealer yesterday and the computer printout from the key fob showed that it has a n52 engine.

I thought all 330i manufactured after 2007 has the newer n53 engine. Am I wrong in thinking that? Does it mean that my car only has 256 bhp?

BMW produce both N53 and N52N for E90 330i during 2007 and 2008.

thanks for the quick response.

Aside from not having direct injection, does the n52n engine have a smaller power output?

afaik there is no power change. the n52/53 have many versions in 323/325/328/330 and the transition to DI didn't impact power at any of the levels. at all I suspect because there are all different tunes of the same basic engine.

Thanks Akhter, it's good to know that. Although I have read it somewhere that apparently, the n53 engine with direct injection uses 15% less fuel. I wonder if that is true.
