General Question - changing Halogen to HID
Hi. I'm fairly new and not too car savvy.
I just leased a 2011 328xi, which comes with halogen lights however i wanted to change to HID. If i go through the dealership, it's mighty expensive - however, i'm afraid if i go after-market and get it done for less, my warranty gets void. Any suggestions how this can be done in the most cost efficient way? |

HId kits are plug and play and removal is all of 10 minutes.
Get a kit, and go back to stock for warranty if you foresee a problem. Having your cake and eating it too. www.highperformancebulbs.com sells a Canbus HID kit that will be Error Free on your BMW for a nice price. I made a thread about them not too long ago. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=435925 |

you didn't do your research before leasing your car. do your research this time before you just buy a hid kit without the proper housing. hid kit with stock fog light housing is okay as it's too low to blind oncoming traffic. |

To the best of my knowledge, there is not an h7 based hid bulb available that is short enough to fit in the housing. The h7 based hid bulbs are a bit longer than a standard h7 halogen bulb and hit the shield in the housing. Obviously this will not work. So, even if you were going to get a shielded d2r bulb which should eliminate the glare and blinding, it simply will not work unless you modify the housing.
