Link is dead. Is this North American now? This was out weeks ago in Germany, so this is a unless they've moved out of beta testing in a matter of weeks.

It's the same video that's been posted multiple times ont his forum for over a month now...... nothing new at all. Search youtube for "BMW & google" if you want the video. Again, its Germany only now, but the video gives you a preview of what we might get two years from now.

I can't view youtube from work.... Can someone please tell me, does the car have to be turned on for this to work? Or will it pick up the directions the next time you get in your car and turn it on? Thanks.

looks like it's the next time you get in the car, the system will update the destination.

Of course if you have the optional BMW Assist Convienience package you can have them send a destination to your nav. Has anyone used that service?

This google maps/BMW Nav feature is only available in Germany. Basically it works by sending an email from the google maps page. The data from the email gets converted into a destination the BMW nav systems can use. Next time the car is turned on the new destination is available in the destinations list for the driver to select.

As LedZep pointed out, the way the google destination comes up on nav is similar to the US Convenience/Concierge package ($199/yr). With that package a US owner can hit the SOS button and a BMW employee can beam a destination to the nav system.

The US concierge package proves e9x's have the ability to get destinations remotely. So, in theory the google maps feature could be added to the US market without any need for new hardware. Since BMW is getting $200/yr from people for the convenience package dont expect the google maps feature to reach the US for free. I do think we'll see it in the US within the next 2 years and probably as part of the convenience package.
