V1 "E" errors in new models? Escort X50 calibration errors?
Guys,
I was originally set on V1, even PM'd some members here who recommended it further, but I decided to research further and compare with the Escort X50. I read tons of threads on http://www.radardetector.net/ and it seems like many people are having some issue receiving "E" error msgs on newer models, only to send it back to get checked. Anyone having these probs? OTOH some people there reported getting calibration errors on the X50 which also required service. Still debating which to get.

Thx for the link.
I keep hearing about their bad customer service attitude.

I *think* Beltronics and Escort are the same company now, if I'm not mistaken. A couple of friends had Beltronics and they said it didn't last much after a year. Escort, on the other hand, lives, as does the V1. But hey if you're interested just visit http://www.radardetector.net and you can read up on the various models in the forum from real world experience.

Ninjaneer, which RD did you finally buy? Have you considered the new Escort 9500i? I am looking to replace my Bel Vector 985 and I am considering the 9500i, the V1 and the Excort X50. Thanks.

I just bought the Bel STi Driver...yes Bel and Escort have the same parent company, but they are run seperatly.
The Bel is awesome, as far as build quality the STi Driver is hand assembled and it shows, it has a metal exterior and is very hefty. I just finished a small road trip thru Louisiana and Mississippi and it saved me several tickets. The only close encounter I had was traveling on a MS highway...I saw a police car coming from the distance (I was going about 95) as I asked my wife if that looked like a cop, I eased on the brake when suddenly the radar went off....I slammed the brakes and the cop just kept going. My thought is he wasnt actually shooting radar (this would explain why I didnt p/u any radar prior of him shooting other cars) Then when he saw me flying down the road in the fast lane he decided to turn it on, but fortunatley my reaction was slightly quicker. Other than that, I had plenty of advance warning in several others cases. Never picked up POP or Laser though in the 3 day trip. BTW- I am a previous Escort owner, owning about 6+ models over the years. I purchased the Bel after finding comparison results showing the Bel had a slight edge in distance over the V1 and current Escorts.

I use it in City mode mostly, with X-band off. My only gripes are the annoying K warnings from super-markets etc., and when it picks up KA that's coming from the side (which means it is working, but it's annoying sometimes although quickly obvious to know it's from a side street since it only registers shortly and disappears). So I guess for V1 people those arrows would help in this case. The 9500i would definitely put those super-market K-band warnings to rest with its GPS saving capability. Unfortunately it wasn't out by the time I got mine, but if mine ever craps out I'll most likely look into it. Guess I should look into that as well in the future should the need arise
