N54 and Pulley(s)

Have any of you tried an aftermarket pulley on the N54 motor? I know pulleys have caused a stir (good and bad) on N/A motors, but I haven't seen any traffic on them in my short time here on BP. My last car (SC AMG) benefited greatly from a pulley.

Also, it seems as though most of the after market companies have stayed away from them. ESC has one.

Any thoughts?

The pulley you changed on your Merc was for the sc itself. The pulleys for a 335i would be completely different I believe they are called underdrive pulleys. In te Benz they increased the supercharger boost and that's why you got so
muh more power. For the n54 it would just reduce rotator mass. Did you have the 5.4sc or 3.2sc?

This has been discussed here in the past - the overall consensus was that the risks outweigh the benefits. Search and you will see these threads.

This topic has been beaten to death a few times already...this isn't a harmonically balanced pulley and many ppl will tell you its bad for your engine's crankshaft bearings to replace a harmonically dampened one (OEM) with non-harmonically dampened one (ECS or NST)...

at the same time some of those ppl, including myself, are running lightweight single mass flywheels on the opposite side of the engine (on the crankshaft as well) and no one, including me, objects or has issues...i wouldn't run both a lightweight fly AND this pulley BUT this is just a thought..

think this is totally your call..

EDIT: Do a search on "NST pulley"

I changed the crank pulley, the SC pulley came out later and I choose not to do it. MB parts are really expensive.

3.2 SC

I thought that might have been the case, but the searches I ran did not yield much. I maybe a Noob, but I have been on forums in the past and def use the Search funtion before posting.

yeah, and with the weight savings that ESC has, you'd think they would have considered the harmonic balancing.

Thanks for the quick responses and info guys.....I appreciate it!
