ECU Stuck. Need help!

Hi everyone. I'm trying to remove the ecu but it's stuck. I think it's the subconnector that's stuck. I attached a pic where I circled what's not pulling out. The right side comes out fine but left side pulls out about half an inch and is stuck. Tried for a while to pull it out but no go. Any tips? First time I've had so much trouble taking it out. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you just try to lift the ECU up some out of the holder and pull some more?

Black subconnector pulls out about 1/2 inch to left then you should be able to lift up. You may need to lift entire ECU slightly to provide clearance on left. There is a large tab in front or behind ECU to lift it. Give that a try.

Good luck!

Thanks for the responses. I'll give it a try this weekend. Maybe I made a bonehead mistake, but the right side was easy to take out. I've also removed ECU 2-3 times already and it's never given me so much trouble. It's usually harder to put it back in lol.

depress switch on both sides? what do you mean? If you're talking about those holes you push down to free the black sub-connector I've tried depressing all 4 numerous times.

Stick a small flathead in the little slit and get some leverage on it. Then double check that you're attaching it the right way. If you were close, I'd stop by and take a look at it.... but the drive is kinda far haha

Thanks for the help guys. I was able to pull out the black connector after a bit of fiddling. It was really hard to pull out but I was able to slowly muscle it out.

Make sure you check for bent pins or any debris in the connector. That black tape BMW uses falls apart easily and will cause major damage if left in the ECU pin area.
