MP3 player reads what? id3 tags? file names?

im losing my mind here, all my ID3 tags are properly set, but the mp3 player keeps reading files randomly

sometimes it displays the artist in the first menu, sometimes it displays the album name, other times its neither and its some random crap

the only thing i can think of is that it reads id1 tags, but i cant believe thats true, i dont even have software to change those

the only other option is filenames, but i know thats not true because it totally doesnt fit

Seems to read filenames normally, and ID3 if "detail" is enabled. Not sure if it reads ID3v1 or v2, all my files are tagged with both.

Only time I've ever seen album info is when a file is tagged incorrectly.

Not sure, but if you need the old ID tags, use WinAmp. It has a function to add them (I believe). Saw it a long time ago while messing with it for a similar problem with a CD player.

yes, Winamp 2.81 can edit both types of tags v1 and v2.
It can also copy both ways v1 to v2 and vice versa.
