Slight vibration....Weird tire wear...questions
For the last few months I have noticed a bit of a wobble coming from my rear wheels. I've noticed my passenger seat vibrating. No vibration from my front wheels at all. So I go to switch out wheels and tires yesterday and there was one lug on each of the rear wheels that was torqued on WAY too tight. I even broke my socket adapter on one of them. The others were fine. I also notice that the tire tread has become worn on the very inside of the tread on BOTH rear tires.
Question is...Can torquing one lug on the hub cause a rotor to become warped and cause slight vibration? Its strange that both tires have the same inside tire wear. If not I'm thinking I just need to get an alignment done. Thoughts? |

Inside tire wear is normal on our cars. All 3 series have negative chamber in the rear which causes inside tire wear like you described.
Over-torquing one lug can cause vibrations....although it would have to be really uneven torque. I doubt the hub is warped/out of spec. Did reinstalling your wheels help? You can check out your bushings too. They may be worn although they should be fine. |

Well I noticed a bit of the same vibration and the only reason I notice the vibration is because my passenger seat vibrates back and forth. Its vibrating off and on at times with the new set I just installed. I havent noticed that kind of wear though on my tires in the past and I have been through the same set of summer tires for the past two summers and a set of winters. Seems odd. I'll post up a pic tomorrow of the wear.

You may want to check your bushings them....worn bushings can lead to accelerated tire wear.
