5 x 120 spacers (Will they work across different makes?)

I was wondering if say for instance, H&R hubcentric spacers that are for another non BMW make will also work on our E92s as long as the bolt pattern is 5x120 and it's hubcentric with a protruding lip.

Reason I ask is because my buddy put them on a VW and was saying that the H&R ones come with two different bolt patterns (each 5 lug) drilled into the spacers. He thinks the ones for his car can fit mine because we both require hubcentric spacers. Guys on VWvortex or other forums sell the same spacers for considerably less than dudes on this board.

Even if the spacers has two different bolt patterns, I'll really doubt that the hub size are the same.

This^
99% of the time the Hub bore if not the same, so for a VW they have a 66.6mm hub

BMW (except e39...) use a 72.56 hub Bore.

The only one you could use would be a Corvette spacer, since they run 5x120 @ 72.6mm (probably camaro too, GM..)

Great. Thank you for the quick responses guys. I'll just probably buy new RE ones then if I do go this route. I guess it does make sense that not all hubs are created equally.
