N54 stockers pushed to 20 psi in the high RPM range are SCREAMING... for help.
Natural efficiency.... who cares. Everyone knows upgraded turbos will be more efficient.
Point is...

As much as neither of those mods do anything for PRE Turbo, they do plenty Post intercooler and for the air entering the motor and the air in the motor.

However, if you wanted you can help pre turbo efficiency by also spraying meth pre-turbo. Which is an option. Again, improving the efficiency of over-worked turbo's.

It is of course by no accident plenty of the people mated with these mods including myself run 17 -18 and even past 20 PSI while gaining power and better times at the track.

Point being, Only true way to imrpove efficiency is upgraded turbos or PRe turbo meth injection.

However, you can still gain power and increase boost by using the methods I mentioned at the end of the day.

Take it easy man. Nobody said you COULDN'T run that much and that you wouldn't gain power and lower times. You can do whatever you want. Although, you start losing the power benefits/PSI after a certain point... but that's besides the point.

MY point was, that your stock turbos are hating you every time you go there.

Turbo's are expendable, keeping the motor intact and happy is top priority.

Ok... stock turbo's "hate me". Crying myself to sleep.

Does the JB3 give full boost before the engine is fully warmed up? I can imagine that would cause excessive wear on the engine / turbos - especially if you live in a climate where it can drop below the water freezing point.

At the end of the day its up to the end user to decide when to rip on it. The car stock will let you floor it stone cold.

Jb3 doesnt offer a proactive approach to limiting boost right now for cold oil temps.

The Procede limits boost until 160 or 170 oil temps.

I got the jb3 2.0, Helix Stepped FMIC, Bastuck Quads, original HPFP and 53,500 miles on it and no issues. I keep it on map 3 and I know I'm close to between 380 to 400 rwhp

One of my turbos started going bad around 38k. It seemed like more problems started occuring when my catless dps went on. I hardly ever drove hard. I think it's the luck of the draw. You've gotta pay to play.

Shouldn't the downpipes help the turbos? They reduce back pressure. I have never heard that they can be harmful to the engine.

The reason you thought the problem got worse when you put the catless dps on is likely because there was much more oil blowing out of the exhaust rather than being soaked/burned up by the cats. If one keeps at stock boost levels downpipes, intercooler, intake, etc. will, without question, increase the life on the engine parts.

I do believe it is somewhat luck of the draw, whether it's HPFP, turbos, WG actuators, injectors coils, etc...there isn't really a rhymn or reason to any of it. Some super modded cars go 60,000 miles on original parts, some stock cars can't make it more than 10000 without replacing the common parts.

Maybe so, but that's how it all went downhill for me Hense I'm in an N55 now.

It started with bad injectors not too long after the DPs went on.. and then eventually towards the end.. lots of exhaust smoke.. and a weird sounding turbo..
