Hello ,Nice to meet you all! Please advice on new car
Hello Bmw LoverS
I'm new to the forum and nice to meet you all. I will be going to look at a used 335i Msport and i would love if fellow 335i owners can share some of your wisdom for a newbie like me. How can i identifly any faults , e.g. wastegate problems , cracked alloys or in general i just want to know how would a healthy car feel like? The car is 07 oct and auto with 26,000 on the clock from bmw dealer, should i insist that if i buy i want to check the alloys for crack with my own eyes before walking out the forecourt? it is just that the 1223232132 X points of check they talk about in AUC car i don't buy, i'm just paying for the warranty from a used car from bmw. In regard to my question, was really how will a healthy car drive and feel? and should i concertrate on listening to specific sounds during the test drive, i have heard some poeple with the gearbox problem but what is it? jerky change or what , i have not had any test drive on a 335i before so basically i want to get an idea when to walk away. Cheers and many many thanks Haru. |

Just remember you will always have your 12 month warranty if buying approved used so I would worry too much. Without jacking the car up and having a real poke around it would be hard to tell alot of it from looking. They do quite heavy inspections on them anyway but could always get the RAC/AA to have a look if you need to?

I just recently purchased a e92 335i. I decided to buy AUC over independent dealer or private seller for my own peace of mind. I too was a bit worried about faults with 335i's, so opted for this route. I think you could have an issue with any car, and from looking at forums for other cars, you always hear horror stories etc. If you are going to buy AUC, I personally think it gives the best piece of mind, you do pay for it obviously as you could pick up a cheaper car from pistonheads, autotrader etc, depends on how you feel. I drove a guys car I found on autotrader before buying AUC, and it was great apart from needing a service and then, when driving, REDUCED POWER flashing up on screen. I just thought, imagine paying best part of £20k for a car, with no warranty, and then that happening, from that point, I could only go AUC.

Haru.[/QUOTE] In answer to this, it should feel like how you would imagine a fast BMW should feel, it should be quick, and drive great. If you drive one and don't think it is, it is either broken, or you need a M3. |

Sounds like you need to try a few to get the feel for comparative cars. However if as other says you stick with AUC at least you have a decent backup altho no one wants to buy a troublesome car.

As someone has said before, if I had my time again I would "crawl all over the car" and look for any negatives. More specifically, I would check:
- Bumpers and alloys for touching up. OK if it's a good job, but check - The rest of the car for repairs/paintwork - The service history. Find out where the car came from, previous owner(s) etc. - Really check the tyres for inner edge wear. What appears to be a good tyre can be heavily worn on the inside, as mine were. They were AUC and 3 needed changing in 3k miles - Look at the spec. Is it really what you want? - If it's an M-Sport, drive it over some poor quality roads. Can you live with the ride quality? I reckon that these are the main areas to check on ANY AUC. |
