2011 335d Lease or Finance
Hello, I just signed for a new 2011 335d; Alpine White; Premium, Sport, and Cold-weather packages and; Nav. MSRP = $53,725.
However, since the car has to be trucked in from another dealer, I haven’t yet finalized on whether to finance or lease the car (I have until the car arrives, which could be a week or two). I was prepared to finance but would love to hear some thoughts about the lease options I was provided. I generally prefer to finance but I am not completely averse to leasing if the beating is to a minimum! Here are the key lease details: 3-year lease; 10,000 miles per year $45,214 – Adjusted cap cost after credits and negotiation on MSRP $578 – Monthly payment before sales taxes $613 – Monthly payment including sales taxes $1,700 – Equity of trade-in rolled into lease $1414 – Amount due at signing which includes 1st month payment, registration, and other fees $30,086 – Lease-end Residual Value If I finance, I will likely go with my own finance company b/c the rate is 3.49% on any term up to 84 months. In doing this, I will lose the $1500 holiday credit since that is only available if BMW financing is used. BMW’s rate is about 5.6% up to 60 months. So with my lower rate, I still do better, even without the $1500 credit. If I went out 84 months, my monthly payment would be about $630 per month, assuming similar factors as with the lease. I would not pay the minimum every month but might go that route in order to keep the payments lower for those just in case months. But I would try to pay about $800-$1,000 per month. If necessary, I can put more money down towards the finance, I just don’t want to do that with the lease. I only drive about 10,000 miles per year and historically have gotten a new car every 3-4 years. While these 2 factors alone might make me sound like a perfect lease candidate, with the diesel, I am open to the idea of keeping the car for many years/miles. Any feedback would be extremely appreciated. If I left anything out, please let me know. Thanks Rambler |

As a follow-up to my OP, the sale is pending my being ok with the mileage on the car. Since it was coming from another dealer, my dealer didn't know the exact mileage. I found out today that the car has 71 miles on it. I was discouraged by this and tried to get them to move a little more on the price but they won't. What do you think, should I walk? I know it's not a lot of miles but they are critical break-in miles and there is no way of knowing how those miles were driven. It seems to be only 1 of 2 335d's in the northeast area with Sports, Premium, and Cold-weather packages. This one is AW with Nav. The other one available is Jet Black without Nav. They are looking into the mileage of the black one but I was pretty set on getting the AW... although I love the black too, just not easy to maintain. Both have beige dakota leather.

It's not a good month to lease BMW. The residual is now 56% for 3 year/10000 miles, which is 3% lower than last month. Do you know what money factor they are giving you? You might be able to have it lower. Have them break down fees they are charging. Don't just look at the monthly payment.

Lease the car - you're a perfect candidate for it. 71 miles - who cares. |

I think 335d has $1500 holiday credit + $3500 Eco credit + $900 off your taxes and .9% apr for 2 or 3 years..
Basically $5900 off and .9 for 3 years if you are looking to purchase.. |

The lease offer takes into consideration the $5k worth of credits, plus another $3,500 or so off MSRP... net $45.2k sale price. The money factor is .0021, so about 5.04% which is not great but could be worse. I think as far as leases go, this is not bad at at. Also, I'll be getting a brand new car off the boat now since it turns out the car w/ 71 miles on it had some damage. There's currently one on the way with the same color and options that is being intercepted by my dealer.

I've been following this site and it's been very accurate. I was quoted a little high by my dealer. As soon as I mentioned what I heard the current MF was, they were able to immediately lowered it, not matching but very close. Although rates may vary from state to state, I would definitely mention it to your dealer. Good luck. |
