There are a few roads around here to test this thing out and see if it has a top speed limiter....I drove a few M5s that supposedly had them, but the 173mph indicated was saying something else....

No, I think that with the sport package BMW moves the top speed limit up to 150 or 155 from the stock 130ish.

I got the first serious symptoms of a pump failure last Wednesday night. Called them at around 6PM. Booked the car in for first thing Thursday morning. By the end of Friday the new pump was installed but they wanted to road test and wash it up for me the next morning. I picked it up around 10:30 Saturday morning.

Maybe my dealer was being proactive -- knowing that they had x number of early production cycle cars out there, they put a few pumps in inventory. ??

Well as he mentioned the dealer probably had a few stocked in inventory. They are very hard to come by at this point (same thing when the TCU recall came out), so the dealers are trying to grab what they can. For us it was very hard to get even just one...we had a car sit on a lift for almost 2 weeks waiting for one...we ended up buying the car back and giving the customer another one to please her....

Procede, 10/06 build, 1500 miles, no fuel pump issues. I understand that if the fuel pump f's up, the car won't start or something like that....i.e., it will be very noticeable and unmistakable, Si?

Dealer down the street from me stocks 98% of BMWs inventory....they have many 335 fuel pumps on hand. I brought mine in and they had it one hte spot...i asked the guy how they had it so fast and the whole world is on back order, he told me they all order from their dealer ship.

Sorry to hijack again, but I managed to come upon an opportunity to try it again...I made sure I was in 6th gear at this time...ran up against a mk4 or 5 golf 1.8T with a monster turbo...kid happens to be my friends neighbor. He got the jump and pulled HARD on me, but I chased him down up top (he was till 3 cars ahead)...I was just about 4700rpms and hitting close to 136mph.

If the governor is set at 150, then we should hit it around 6 grand..this gearbox is short.

But anyways back on topic..

Unfortunatley No - at least for me... You will first noticed a warning light and reduction in power. That code will eventually clear and the car will run good. Then when the car is cold, you will experience extended crank time - up to 10-15 secs to start. My car was built in October and failed in November. Took it to the dealer 3-4 times with videos etc and took 2 weeks to fix.

This warning light, can you describe what it looks like or post a photo? I am hoping it is not the exclamation mark in the triangle. ! - surrounded in a triangle, which I think pertains to tire pressure. Tx.

it's not a big deal - the car just doesn't start =) car goes into limp mode and your stuck in park.

No big deal if that happens while sitting in your garage and you have another car to drive.
Major deal if this happens while on a road trip and you stop to get gas in the middle of nowhere and can't get your car started. I take it you were being sarcastic anyway.

My car is a 10/06 build date.
2400 miles no issues as of yet.
But I will be honest, it concerns me. Luckily I own 3 other cars.
But it is making think twice about taking the BMW on any road trip (even if it's only 100 miles away from home) where it might leave me stranded.

Not cool in a $45K car.
If this is a problem, BMW better issue a TSB really soon!!

+1, I would like to know too since I'm just recently a new victim of the fuel pump issue.

Also once the fuel pump is replaced, are we looking at a much better car now? Basically,are the replacement fuel pumps supposed to be problem free already? Or are they just doing a straight replacement of the original fuel pump? And therefore the same problem might occur again? Or is it a brandnew/better fuel pump that fixes the problem all completely? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I read on www.bimmerfest.com that there was someone who posted having fuel pump issues on some of the early E46 330i models. Umm... history repeating itself? Not sure if that report is credible though since as far as I know, BMW never made a recall on that issue and it wasn't a common enough problem, unlike the current E90 335i fuel pump issue.

those are questions with elusive answers. i posted another thread,b ut i got my car back frot he dealer today after they did the software update. i think i stil need to bring it in for a new fuel pump, i'm sitll experiencing extended crank isses.

Oh shit sorry I didnt see your post. Anyways to answer your questions. I got the car with procede around 1500 miles. Right now I have about 4800 miles with it on. Im still waiting to hit my magic number of 6000.

You guys know I run the car hard also.

But as for the BOV thing. Im fond of it. but theres always somthing in the back of my mind telling me not to do it haha.

I just got a test pipe installed and the sound is really good. very throaty. You can hear the spool a lot better now.

I haven't had my fuel pump replaced yet as I'm still waiting for the part. I just told them to replace the fuel pump for me already and not bother trying to reprogram the computer. I figured I might as well just get it replaced and over and done with for good measure. Luckily my local dealer was fairly cooperative. I walked in with all the documentaion as well as this letter from BMW (PDF file attached below), so they now know I know exactly whats going on and what I'm talking about. They didn't have a choice but to just listen to me and they said they'll put in the order for the new pump as soon as possible.

Now the only thing I don't have control over is how long it will take for the pump to get to me.

ironic: Please do keep me updated on your progress with the fuel pump as it would be good to compare notes and see how our repairs go for the both of us. Btw, that attached pdf file might help you out with the dealers when you ask them to order a new fuel pump for you. Good luck for the both of us!
