Test Driving/Ordering thiw weekend
Hey Guys...
In need of a new daily driver, I've decided to lease a new 335xi. Trouble is, I haven't been able to find a 6MT to test drive anywhere. Is this common for dealers not to stock a MT? This is of course the Ultimate Driving Machine. I recently drove an M3 Seq Manaul at the M Power event and was really impressed how smooth and fast the shifts were, esp at higher rpms. But I doubt the M trans would be similiar to a 335 Seq Man. Anyone have any input on this issue? Also, I pretty well prepared though true car and edmunds to negotiate price, but is there anything you wish you asked a dealer about before purchase? Any mmo I can bring in there I'd appreciate... Thanks in Advance |

When I went to my dealer to test drive some 3s: Out of hundreds, they did not have one MT. From what I have heard this is not uncommon. Call around, you may find one. Remember, there are less enthusiasts like us, and more families looking for a DD, which unfortunately means more ATs.

True... Just figured of the 20 or so each dealer had in stock. One would be MT. I went to test drive an A5 about two weeks ago and they had a few in stock. Figured BMW would be the samw

Yeah, my dealer didn't have any 335's w/ MT to drive. The sales guy ran a search and found one down in Houston...in the entire state of Texas there is one 335 w/ MT on a lot that's not already sold.
Maybe I should try a 135... |

45 minutes would be nice... You shouldn't have to call around. A salesguy at my local dealer was able to check inventory across the state (and probably in others).

I called around to five local dealers on LI and was SOL. One dealer wanted me to come in and drive a Z4 to get the feel of the BMW gearbox. I declined. I found plenty of 1series and Z's. But no 335's. A little shocked as I feel that's the car that there would be an abundance of. Then again. I read on jalopnik yesterday that only 6.7% of cars sold in the us last year were manuals.
Anyway. Ordering tomorrow from Rallye. Getting a great deal. I'll drive a slushbox there just to get a feel for the car. Can't wait |

Finding a MT 335 will be hard. A majority of 3 series sold are 328's and 90+% of 3 series sold are AT's. My MT 328 was found at a dealer in NJ. I live in Michigan.

We don't stock order manual transmission cars for good reason. Having one in stock is NEVER the right color/options for the person who wants one.
It's true we sell a fair number of them; we just don't stock order them. |
