2 car purchase

Hey guys,

Just registered but I've been lurking for a few months now.

Currently driving my father's 08 528xi when its available but the 3-year lease is ending soon in 2011

We're thinking of financing a '11 335xi (for me) and leasing a '11 535xi (for him)
Thus, negotiating two cars at the same time...so hopefully we'll get a better deal but what kinds of things (throw-ins) should we ask for?

Also, just wondering if you guys knew any good/honest/dependable salesman at BMW Toronto or Parkview (or anywhere else in the GTA)

Thanks in advance

At Parkview talk to Louie Rocco, he's a great guy and very respected in the industry
On a side note, I'll sell you my 2011 335xi, PM me if you're interested?

On a two car deal, it may be worth checking with the APA. They are stronger in Montreal but have a Toronto operation too. That or one of the brokers. If you know what you want, they will spend the time negotiating for you (for a modest fee). Some of them will also take your car in for service etc.

APA in Toronto will give you a "hassle free" quote on your car, but to my knowledge, they will not negotiate for you.

To the OP, I really don't know how much better a deal you will get if you are buying two cars.

I would recommend BMW Toronto, though I never dealt with them, when I bought my car here in Waterloo I was dealing with the General Manager (Katie Quinn) and now she moved to BMW Toronto. She was very helpful...

I found BMW Toronto helpful as well. It always depends who you are dealing with. My advice... go in and have your dad or you (whoever is better at negotiating and doesn't get attached to the item) negotiate a deal for the more expensive vehicle. Get as low as you can, then drop the bomb that you want to buy 2 vehicles and ask what more can be done.

Just be prepared to walk away and go somewhere else, you'll eventually find someone willing to work with you and make you happy, don't expect it to happen on the 1st try - even if its nice that it works out that way.

Another thing I did was contacted about 10 dealers. Some I went directly...

I told them that I am looking for the best deal I can get, that I live in Waterloo and my mom lives in Oshawa so I have no problems going to the dealers along the way if I am visiting her.

Make sure that you go to www.carcostcanada.com and get the actual price of the car before dealer commission. So at least you will know how much you can take of reasonably.

The 3-series markup is usually about 9% across the board.

Thanks for the advice everyone

I'm looking at the 2011 e92 335xi with M sport package either LMB or MW or AW. Not sure if i'll be getting nav...

My father is looking at the 2011 535xi base in white

Thanks BRAISKI for your advice on visiting different dealers. I'm always back and forth from Toronto to London so I'll probably be checking out BMW London and possibly BMW Waterloo as well as all the rest in the GTA.

My father has been dealing with Tommy @ Parkview so far...but he isn't really a favourite =P

Thanks in advance
Honestly, a lot of people are going to drop a lot of names with people they dealt with -- in reality, people want to feel like they got a good deal so often convince themselves that they did get one.

BMW isn't that premium a car, you still need to haggle and bargain like at a Honda dealership. I would put in some effort and shop around -- I'm not even from Toronto and when I shopped I hit at least 5+ dealerships in the GTA dealerships including one in London via phone (GTA = anywhere from Port Hope to London on the 401 effectively). Then when you've isolated a couple good ones, go in person to finish the deal.

There is no such thing as "some magic name at xxx dealership that will 'hook you up'"

Be prepared to do that.

Edit: if you want to save a bit of money, try to go light on the options; have a list beforehand -- options are always nice at the dealer, but add up quick.
