Flat snorkle turbo inlet / intake piping question - *please read*

After searching a few threads i've noticed a general perception with regards to "intakes" on a turbo'd car and the opinion that you will see little to no improvement, etc.

But how about for these specific pipes? I mean im not talking HP, im talking intake effeciency and turbo response at stock boost.

There just has to be an improvement if these flat, bent, reduced pipes & restrictive air box are swapped out with smooth straight as possible mandrel bent alluminum - adding 2 foam type filters at the end. I would retain any oem air ducting which moves air into the engine bay ofcouse.

yes i pulled some pipping out and a friend and i took a close look. were going to fab up a few alluminum pipes, silicone hoses, etc. and make swapable plumbing. It will be black and have a blanced mix of welds and hoses for flexability - for motor movement.

Is there anyone else out there attempting the same thing? Nothing major, the piping is not to complex.

I haven't heard of anyone developing a new intake system for this car yet, but i'm definitely interested in seeing your results. Keep us posted.

New intake being studied by local company we are working with. No details yet but we will let you know as more development takes place. I am guessing prototype testing in the next 90 days.

^^^ Hope it doesn't carry a ridiculous price tag just because it's for a "BMW"

HAve you noticed what we charge for the Turbo Tuner ?

If we build an intake it will carry the price it has to for us to justify the cost to build it. A fair profit to us doesn't mean bend over.

Can't wait to see it Jeff! I'm half tempted to throw a cone filter on each turbo myself in the meantime.

I didn't say the TT was expensive, but you said you are working with a company that is doing the R&D...i'm saying i hope they don't charge a buttload just because, this is a "BMW"...

I would like to get my hands on the Turbo Tuner if my procede doesn't arrive by next week, i'm tired of waiting....

The company that is working on it is a major intake company so they can amortize the R&D costs to a degree. But it is not going to be as inexpensive as say a typical intake for a Honda or something Much will depend on "if" good power can be had by creating an intake and then can it be CARB approved. The cops are now pulling over anything with a cool set of wheels and popping hoods . So it has to be workable in more ways than just HP. WE will see.

More trouble than its worth, I'd rather throw on an alky setup.

FWIW with the intake, maybe someone should dyno with the airlid and filter off to see if those are potential restrictions.

It's not just for looks, you'd be surprised how much HP you gain with a larger FMIC...

I bet the car would throw a CEL and then go into limp mode with the cover off. This car is too damn smart!
