The center resonator in the 335i (not sure if this applies to the 328i you drive) serves to reduce the noise level of the exhaust. It is also somewhat restrictive, so the theory is that by removing it, you (slightly) improve performance and get a more pleasing (louder) exhaust note.
If you don't know what it is or how it's done, it is NOT a DIY for you. It is not likely to be a DIY for most people who DO know what it is. In general, aftermarket exhausts delete this resonator, so you can delete it by replacing the exhaust. Other option is to go to a muffler shop and have them replace the resonator with some straight piping. |

Some cars exhaust tone change dramatically when removing the resonator. Their was a thread a WHILE back with a 330 deleting its resonator with clips. The sound isin't that much different.
Pretty much you go to a local muffler shop, ask them to take out your resonator and replace it with a straight pipe. Job should be less than 80. I'd go somewhere else if they try to charge you more then that (and $80 is already borderline expensive) You'd probably get better results with the Golf Tee mod then the resonator delete. Plus golf tee mod cost next to nothing and IS DIY. Resonator delete is not. |
