How many miles on the car now? How many miles were on the car when the warranty expired?

It appears that the dealership may have been correct (according to the SIB) in not repairing the seepage, but now the question is how to get BMW to agree to a warranty repair.

Quoting what is says in the SIB:

The "oil wetness" in the area of the sealing sleeve is not an indication of substantial leak, and does not justify this
repair.

cb1111 has a good point here. Though I have to disagree with BMW because if there is oil seeping through that indicates a leak period. They know that when it is seeping through it will be a bigger problem later. They just want the warranty to expire so you can pay for it. That is how much they stand up to their cars.

I would not quote or cite the SIB. I would just cite the service manual and state that when they discovered the defect (seep) they should have fixed it. There is no acceptable "seep" when the car was still under warranty, trans doesn't have a dipstick, and no low light indicator. Again, do not mention the SIB, and stick to your guns.

I agree with you - how can a tranny fluid seep be acceptable on a BMW less than 4 years old with less than 50,000, during in the warranty period. And especially since it is a closed system, it is never checked and filled. It is not like they would top off the tranny fluid with every oil change.

It now seems if they know about the SIB they might state that seepage is not a required repair. I think it is completely shady that first they call it a "seep" because the car is nearing the end of warranty, then all the sudden less than 2,000 miles later it is now a "leak" that needs to be repaired since I am out of warranty.

So does everyone agree I should ditch the SIB to avoid them stating that a "seep" does not constitute repair? I know an SIB many times shows that an issue is common and shows them there is a manufacturer defect, but in this circumstance does everyone think I would be better off getting this covered without the SIB?

Makes sense to me. This is the exact reason why we needed to see the SIB - it is totally silent about out of warranty repairs.

I'd start referring to BMW's discovery of the "seep" as a leak that wasn't repaired.

I'd say something along these lines "BMW found a leak before my warranty expired but didn't repair it at the time. Now, 2000 miles later, the leak has gotten substantially worse and I request that it now be repaired under warranty."

I have to wait till tomorrow to call BMWNA about a goodwill repair. BMW Bellevue won't do anything about it. It sucks, my car has 28k miles on it but warranty ran out 6/1/2010. I put on about 1500 miles since the warranty ran out. What do you think my chances are at a goodwill repair? Slim to none?

Just take it to a shop which works on ZF transmissions and get it done. It's not like your A/T will implode.

Anybody have access to REP 00 11 500 referenced in the SIB? My tranny isn't leaking, but now that it's cold out, it has symptoms of low fluid when cold. Mine was repaired under warranty (it's no longer in warranty), but I'm thinking they may not have topped it off fully.

just got a quote.....$676...at a independent shop.


cost to fix....$200.

cost to replace fluid and filter $476
