Anyone tried this after market plugin IPOD Adapter?
Hey y'all,
I have been looking for the OEM ipod adapter for the usb and 3.5mm input in my car, and I ran across this product.. http://www.amazon.com/BMW-Ipod-Adapt.../dp/B003UB3U44 Have any of y'all tried it ? Because I sure as hell don't want to pay MSRP for the thing. Lemme know if y'all have one for sale, otherwise I might try this out! Thanks |

The only way this will work for you instead of the $300whatever price from the dealer is if you already have that part in the car. If you have a USB port in your center console you're good to go. Otherwise you need the full kit. If you do not care about controlling it with the car just get a 3.5 to 3.5. I hope that helps

I have the same part, well visually it looks the same so I don't know if the model numbers have changed over the years. It works fine for ipods and iphones however it does not work with ipads.
Just throwing that out as an FYI. |

I have purchased this cable on Ebay from the same seller. Took a little longer to get here but it's probably because of customs and inspection.
I can confirm that it works on my 2008 335i and I am able to access all the available funcitonality via the oem head unit. I do not have iDrive so I can't answer that question. Thanks, Chix |

man, i was "this" close to getting that cable. then i ran across a thread on this forum that talked about the blackberry bluetooth gateway. it's so much better than dealing w/ cables. it just streams music from my iphone over bluetooth to a receiver that i keep in my armrest. check it out; it works and sounds great.

right but from the sound of the OP's post, he'd be doing that anyway. it sounded like he doesn't want to put $300 into the integrated option. maybe i misunderstood what he's looking for. either way, no ugly cables to plug in is great, even if it means controlling the music from the phone. hell, i keep my phone in my pocket while i drive and use the side buttons on it to play/pause and skip songs

BTW from reading the documentation the most annoying thing about this interface is that it doesn't seem to play DRM'ed music? Or is that only applicable to reading files directly via USB (like MP3s on a flash key)?

Thanks for the quick feedback y'all, I have the feature in my car with I-drive, I just bought my car used and it was missing the cable. (kinda pist)
Before I pull the trigger on this, have y'all had any issues with iPhones with these cables outside of charging issues? I have a 3GS that I am trying to utilize the full functionality of it on my idrive. Thanks in advance! |

The CCC idrive with USB iPod interface works pretty much the same as the CIC version, minus string search. You can still search by artist, genre, song name, etc. |

1. Allows the user to playback drm itunes content 2. Provides improved performance with large music libraries as the USB connection is only for data/control and not for audio. |
