Tint shop capable of dealing with dot matrix in Western MA?
Hey everyone, from what I've read, the dot matrix on the rear windshields of the E92 is pretty problematic when it comes to tinting. Does anyone here know of anywhere in Western Mass that is capable of doing a good job and dealing with the dot matrix? I'm located not far from Springfield, MA, but I'm willing to drive an hour or so if there's a shop that someone here has deal with and can personally recommend. When recommending a specific shop you've used, I'd appreciate it if you'd be willing to share how much it cost.
Thanks! |

A perfect dot matrix will be hard to come by. Although if the installer knows what they are doing, you can get it pretty close. Ask what their strategy is on the dot matrix. Sanding + adhesive is the only way to go.

So is sanding and adhesive the best option and does it give a presentable result? I'd very much like to tint my car, but I'm not going to bother if I'm guaranteed to wind up with something that looks bad.

What looks "bad" depends on who you ask. It's pretty accepted that tinting over the dot matrix will never be perfect. But if you're looking to tint, sanding and glue is the best option. Others have used black vinyl or even paint on the inside of the glass, which although may look flawless on the outside, looks like complete crap from the inside. Pick your poison.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to check around the forum and see if I can get some good pics on how sanding and adhesive turns out. I don't need perfect, but I'm not willing to do something that negatively affects the appearance of my car.

Same here. I really don't mind that it's not perfect up there, but that's just me.

didnt read everything, but if it is an issue, I know some have just placed a layer of black vinyl over them, before placing the tint.

I won't be home until after it gets dark so I can try taking a picture tomorrow. Brian at Tint King is a great guy and will tell you straight up that it won't be perfect.
