335i Aftermarket Clutch

It's time to replace my newly stock slipping clutch and I don't want to go with another stock one. Who can recommend a good aftermarket product that can hold a fair amount of hp/tq and be used with the OEM dual mass flywheel? TIA.

There a couple of good choices. I love my Clutch Masters. You can get an organic or kevlar if you want to stay with your DMFW. I have the FX850 and love it!

+1. I just put in the street clutch by ACT and it is butter smooth... I even had a few hot spots on my flywheel and there is no chatter whatsoever.

If your clutch is slipping you NEED TO REPLACE IT NOW! If you get bad hotspots or glaze the flywheel - you'll be out an additional 1200 bucks because almost no machine shops will touch the bmw dual mass to do a clean cut...

Plan on about 700 bucks labor at a reputable shop to put it in.

+1 but you CAN find shops that will resurface them...its not the machining/grinding that's difficult, it just takes time, has to be done slow and they don't make enough money on it so not many shops will want to do it...mine was resurfaced just recently when I did my ACT street clutch for $100...otherwise a new Dual Mass flywheel was $2000 in Canada or $950 from Tischer (plus shipping/customs/taxes)...glad I could find a place to resurface it...

So far (1500km) ACT is holding up great. I did a 500 mile (800km) break in, no WOT, RPM below 4000...it was painful but hopefully worth it...we'll see how long it lasts...did a bunch of WOT pulls over the past few days at 18psi with 90/10 meth and its holding strong...no hard launches and I'm staying away from those for a while...

You should do a hard launch. It should take it by now.
I can't wait until you try it. You'll launch out of the line like a bullet with drags on.

What ACT clutch did you get? 4 puck or 6 puck?

For someone who has never shopped for a clutch before, what are the differences between ACT and Clutchmasters? I will be running the Procede V5, and maybe down the road a FMIC and exhaust. Should I be looking at the FX100 or the ACT Street Disk?

How much should someone expect installation to cost?

You will have to decide what company you think makes the best product. Both companies seem to have good reputations on these forums. CM does alter the fulcrum which ACT does not, so they can increase pressure plate force more with less pedal effort.

I paid 695 for the install - also had to pay for the throwout bearing and some torque to yield bolts.
