I just got a Samsung 40" 3D LED TV for the room with 2 rechargeable 3D glasses; I'd figure I give this new fad a try.
So what to do first? I was thinking about getting a 3D Blu-ray player with some 3D DVDs, yay or nay? Also is the 3D TV programming such as ESPN 3D worth the extra $10 on my cable bill per month?

ESPN 3D is not worth the extra $10 because they only have 1 game every 2-3weeks. If you have Comcast it comes free w/ the HD service. I'd but a PS3 because it will plat 3D movies as well as games, Black Ops and GT5 are great. |

I saw it's worth it just cause it's 240hz and higher contrast ratio

Just bought the same one last Friday (one with the brushed metal and glass frame). It is pretty awesome. GT5 and Black ops are awesome on it FYI!!

the glasses are like 150-200$ a piece.. so not worth it.. once they become those cheap disposable ones at the movies (which aren't uncomfortable) then I'll jump on the wagon I enjoy 3D movies, and I don't think it is a fad, but if they don't up their game and provide one standard pair of glasses that works on all TVs, it will just be a fad. I can see people owning their own pair and using it everywhere they go..

It's not just preference. It comes down to refresh rate. LED's are gorgeous HD TVs with wonderful blacks and vibrant colors. However, with 3D being added to the mix the refresh rates of the LEDs are not even in the same league as a Plasma. Plasma will overtake LED and LCD tvs if 3D does rise in popularity.

Plasma will always have better picture quality than an LCD. LED is just the new hip thing to get. Heck, it's been a few years since Pioneer stopped making TVs and their Kuro is still the best on the market. Plasma is cheaper and better also nowadays image retention is almost nonexistent.

Plasma is still and always will be king when it comes to picture quality. I have an 8000 series Samsung Plasma. It has an amazing picture and the 3D is cool, but there is not enough content yet.
