iDrive "random" mp3 playback setting is garbage!
Cool as it may be, the iDrive system in my 2007 328i is full of glitches. My personal least favorite is the "random" option when playing back mp3's. My USB drive has over 400 songs on it, but despite this, it always wants to play songs in the same order. Keep in mind, I do have the random option selected, and it does bounce around alphabetically, but always in a completely predictable manner.
For instance, when I start my car, it'll continue playback on the last song before I shut it off, when I select next, it always goes to "The Pot", by Tool, then to "I'mma be" by the Black Eyed Peas, then to "Pardon Me" by Incubus, etc. And I can of course select a song manually and re-enable the random feature, but whenever I travel the next time, it will play the last song before the car was turned off, then once again cycle through the aforementioned so-called "random" playlist. Anyone else have this problem, and if so, how did you fix it? TIA |

It works fairly good with my 30gig ipod. I have had this problem in the past across various ipod docs though with a different ipod. In my case it was the Ipod, it wouldn't hurt for you to try another USB or format and re add the songs.

OP: It happens to me as well. Do you have the 6FL cable or just a usb cable? I just bought the 6FL cable the other day, but have not driven it since to see if it still does that.

There are no cables on my end, I just plug a USB stick into the USB port in the center console. I try to avoid Apple products, and besides, I think the sound quality is better via USB anyways. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the iPod audio transmit over the analog 3.5mm port, and use USB to change songs, display song information, etc?
Sorry, I'm derailing my own thread, haha |

No, I could be listening to RANDOM and then when I get in my car again, it's set to play the last "random" song, but then every alphabetical one after that!
HELP! :P |
