Has anyone installed an external aftermarket satellite radio antenna?

I have a certified pre-owned '06 330i that did not come with sat prep so I am unable to have the BMW Sirius tuner option installed. I have a Stiletto (the portable Sirius player) that I was planning on putting into my vehicle with the car kit. So, my question is, has anyone installed an aftermarket satellite radio and placed the antenna outside at an external location? After a search, all of the posts I've read describe mounting the antenna on the back shelf next to the rear glass. I was wondering if anyone has put an antenna outside and where did they place it. I was thinking I might place mine on the trunk lid, but I really hate to ruin the aesthetics of the car. I would love to use the shark fin but after all I've read on here, if you don't have sat prep, it is close to impossible to do it because of the complicated and expensive wiring involved. Any thoughts or opinions would be so much appreciated!

'cuz it was a vert, here's where my Sirius antenna was put by the dealer on my E46--middle of trunk. I think I'd try inside, stuck to the window or on the shelf or something before outside the car. I've seen cars with what look like satellite radio antennae closer to the edge of the trunk, so they're not quite so obvious.

To drkeng: On your 07' convertible, where's the sirius antenna located? Does it blend in well with the car? Just wondering because I'm def getting Sirius on my next car, I listen to it all day at work and wish I had it in my car.

same place, but it's a nice body colored fin.
all other antennas are apparently in the body panels on the vert.
if you're not getting sirius, you can delete the fin.
if you don't get sirius and don't delete the fin, it's there as a "prewired for sirius"

Great! Thanks for the help, and the pic as well. I plan on getting Sirius, as well as the HD radio, because most of the stations I like are too far away for my current bimmer's radio to pick up on 100% of the time, well hell, half the time at best. Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply drkeng. I was thinking if I went external I may have it close to the proximal edge of the trunklid so that won't have the wire leading to the antenna showing. I just worry that if I placed the antenna on the rear shelf inside, the rear glass may affect the satellite reception. BTW, nice convertible! Are the new e93s now hardtops?

Yep, Dann, new verts are hardtop.
Let us know how the Sirius install goes when you do it.

Will do...I just have to get the car kit and FM tuner/adapter connection (to reduce noise) I may be the only one who's done this. I sent a similar post months ago: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36295 but I didn't get many replies which tells me not many people have done this, or if they have they aren't talking
