Long Term Effects of AA XEDE Processor
In July I bought a 2007 CPO 335i sedan. Unbeknowst to me this car had an Active Autowerke XEDE processor installed. I am now trying to decide whether or not to keep this car or replace with another (this part is a long story that I won't go in to right now).
My main concern is how the AA processor may have affected the long term reliability of the engine. I do not know how the previous owner drove the car and to my knowledge the processor has been at the stock setting the entire time that I have owned it. If I keep the car I will be uninstalling the processor. So for a reliable daily driver, should I be worried that it had this processor? Thanks, Jonathan |

I wouldn't. AA is known for their very conservative and safe tuning with reliability. I know this from having a stg3 e46 m3. Plus their processor couldn't surpass 14 psi at the time. Hope this helps.

Jonathan,
You should not worry about long term reliability with their software. AA tunes the car to improve power and performance but still stay within the limits of the factory internals. |

The more power you add the more stress the drivetrain is under, the good news is the AA Exede did not add much in the way of power, so stresses were low!
I would definitely complain to the dealer, especially if it was a CPO car as a tuned car should not have been CPO and should be worth less and see what they say!

I definitely agree with this, given that the XEDE is a physical unit in the ECU, I am surprised it passed CPO inspection. Makes me wonder how thorough these inspections truly are and if you are getting your money's worth by paying for a CPO vehicle.

I bought a wrecked CPO vehicle with Japanese fender and front bumper. It was a CPO, It was wrecked, and then fixed with cheap knock off parts by the dealer I bought it from. BMW only warranties the parts that are original or genuine replacements. I guess the xcede won't be covered... Dealer told me it had had some curb damage and thats what the Car Fax said too. All Lies...

See if you can negotiate an extended warranty (free of charge) on the engine because they CPO'd a car that had a tune on it. Worth a try.

Better yet just throw a shit fit and then demand that they honor your warranty and that any tuner related failures be honored or say you will find a lawyer.
This way you get the car and warranty while tuned. You have a good opportunity, now dont blow it.

I have also questioned the value of the CPO due to this experience. However, I will have to say that since the processor was turned off and in a place in the engine compartment that probably was not opened during the inspection (because there was no apparent need to). So they did not do a good job inspecting for a performance computer, but I don't think that means the whole thing is a sham. I have been very pleased with the condition of the car otherwise.
I will be getting a warranty of some sort, I just have to work it out with the dealership. Thanks for the replies, it makes me feel better about what I already was leaning towards. |
