Question about the dealership and my jb3

So I brought my car to the dealership today to get some small bodywork done. I left my JB3 in as I figured there would no reason for them to go under the hood. When I was checking my car in the service guy mentioned that my car was due for an update. I told him not to worry about it and i would take care of it at another time. I got in my loaner and left. Now, I am starting to freak myself out and I am debating on going back first thing in the morning and getting my car back. Last thing I want to do is void my warranty on a 2011 vehicle. What should I do? If they update the car even though I told them not to will that be ok? Your help is greatly appreciated!

I just brought my 2011 335i in for service...it is a 4 hour update so i am sure they will not upload the data if you tell them u need the car. The update is for a problem with the check engine light....mine took 6 hours to update due to slow connection..u should be fine...im in NJ as well.

Thank you for the reply. I had no idea that it was that long to update it. I will call again in the morning and make sure that they let me know as soon as possible when my car is available. They are sending it out to their body shop to have the scrape fixed..thanks

yeah i was just at the dealer getting my rims fixed today...150 each rim to bang out the dents..i may need to get aftermarket winter rims and tires for 1500. I have the M sport package as well and potholes in NJ are terrible. good luck. Where u get the Chip? and how much did you pay for it? I was talking to prestige BMW in ramsey about new chip BMW is developing for the N 55 that will not void the warranty. I may go with that

I hear you. I already replaced one of my run flats as I smoked a pot hole. Terrible. My tune is the jb3 through burger motorsports. I paid 430 i think for the tune and the bt cable The only two tunes for the n55 is the jb3 and procede. I really want to put an exhaust on bad.

If there is a recall from bmw they will update your software no matter what you say.

Try to get the car back. You should not take a tuned car to the dealer especially an N55 where the tune is out in the open in the engine bay.

BMW will update it whether you tell them to or not. I was worried about lag and didn't want them to update the car and they did anyway. I didnt get the dreaded lag i read about on here so it didn't matter but if I were you I would never take the car in with the tune on, no matter how small the repair.

I would have taken it out regardless,

but curious, I thought the only tunes that would prevent a car from taking an update would be either the Procede V5 or the Stg 2 tune from BMS when it comes out for the N55? Listen to my reasoning, the Stg 1 JB3 N55 tune only interfaces through sensory data, much like the JB+, so why would that prevent the update going thru? Maybe I'm off in left field with this...

I think the concern is bmw will find the tune, not that it won't allow them to update. If they lift the hood he'll be screwed.

Dont the update via OBD II? No reason to go to ECU box IIRC.

When in doubt always take tune out. Atleast leave it on map 0.

Always take it out. But like others said, it'll probably be a obII port

I know when the GIAC software was loaded through the OBDII port the shop had to open the hood to ground the car, not sure why but thats what they did. I dont' know if bmw does this as well?
