Quick Noob Question

I've searched and I got so many answers that I think I'm even more confused now. I just have a couple simple questions. I wanted to get an amp put in that would fit inside the trunk liner. I want one that would be powerful enough for the stock subs and speakers (and maybe sws subs in the future but I doubt it). I heard that even just an amp upgrade sounds better. I just want to know a good, cheap, aftermarket amp to buy. Trying to stay under 100 bucks if possible. Also, I heard that adding a tweeter in the front by the middle speaker makes a lot of difference. I can't see that being a lot of money so if anyone knows what kind of tweeter I could get and from where??

THANKS!

Thats a one channel amp

Your existing system has 6 channels(if you have a US 08) . The trouble is BMW put in cheap 2 ohm speakers that won't take that much power if you amp them.
You really need to change the amp and speakers to get a better effect.
Assuming you have the Hi Fi System in your 08
I don't think you are going to find anything for the prices you want that will really improve things.
(It has tweeters if its an 08 US car)

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=368847

You will also need a harness to hook it up.

I would forget that middle speaker unless you are willing to spend a lot of money on
an ms-8 processor

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=467150

You need a basic understanding of stereo electronics to make an intelligent
decision on this. You need to know what you have and what the limitations are
for doing these mods .

I do have a 08 and the L7 system. You're right I don't know much, that's why I was asking. I was searching through the threads and saw some that said people have seen improvements from just an aftermarket amp. I didn't realize it would be that much for the amp though.

Are there any other opinions on this topic? I've read so many threads on how just an aftermarket amp makes the system sound better. Anyone selling an amp I could use? lol

I thought L7 drivers were 4 ohm? Actually I know they are 4ohm.

I have my under seats ampd with an m500 no problems.....they are being run at 75w @ 8 ohms though in series. Parallel, 250w @ 4 ohms is my other option but i think that's too much power.

You can get an f300 for around 75 used on eBay, craigslist, etc. That would allow you to run the L7 woofers at 150w @ 4 ohms. Some have done this will no ill effects on the drivers with mid bass improving.

I would eventually like to swap out my m500 for an f300 so I can run them in stereo.

Only the underseats are 4 ohm accoding to this

You have to know whats in the car before you can make a decision on what to put in it next.

The L7 has a more powerful amp that is connected from the Head Unit by Fiberoptics which makes it more difficult to modify.

You can upgrade speakers on that one though.
It sounds like you want to add a bigger sub and amp for more base

The underseat subs are 4 ohm and the rest are 2 ohm. And BTW 2 4 ohm speakers in parallel is a 2 ohm load not a 4.

And yes....2 ohms. It's been a long day lol

For L7, you don't replace the amp. You have to get a signal from it for aftermarket amps. Or you can recode your HU to HiFi.

I thought you were just talking about the underseats......that's why I didn't specify that I was talking about the underseat woofers in my previous post.

The F300 will only cover your underseats.....or it can drive the door speakers as well but I would get a singe amp that could handle all the channels.

You need at least 6 channels of amplification to replace your 9-channel OEM amp. It is not going to be cheap, easy or simple to replace your OEM amp.

Keep searching and reading because what you need to know have been posted and repeated on and on too many times over.

Technic is going to go off on me but I put these in a 06 330i L7 and it made the sound 10x better. Totally worth the money.

For just a bit more kick from the underseat speakers, just take signal from the orignal amp and add another amp to them. To take it up a notch maybe replace the underseat speakers with SWS-8 subs and the mounting brackets that used to sell on here (not sure if they are still around).
