I have replaced my BMS cones with AEM Dri Cones. http://www.racinglab.com/aem-dryflow-filter.html
They are super easy to clean and you can roll them up into a ball and they will return to their origional shape. I take mine out so often to make adjustments to charge pipe, meth injetion sites etc... that I wanted something durable that didn't look like shit once you handled them one or two times.

I like the AFE design but I have read too many posts on how they slowed folks down. If Terrance says they work best for him I would make sure that I had the same set up all the way around...FMIC, BOV scoops etc. Terry at BMS just dynoed some and the results were dissapointing .

I like the injen intake! It looks sharp, sets cones off the engine, snorkels in air directly to one cone and puts the other cone in a spot to get air from the brake duct with minor modifications. Im sure Im getting about 15wph from my dci with my aem cones, there is no wire mesh on my cones to heat soak, and I can yank them right out from under my strut bar when I need to with no worries about them being damaged by handling them.

That ARS intake looks real nice... that metal box has got to heat soak though, I don't care what you paint it with.....A plexiglass version would do a much better job of keeping heat off the cones I think.
The afe mixed with a good set of scoops worked the best for me. Don't believe the hype of them losing power. How can 2 filters designed better than the dci with a heat shield lose power. And for every dyno you can show them lose power I can show you one where it gained. Matter of fact there is a thread on here of 2 cousins with the same mods, except 1 was running the injen intake and 3" dps and the other was running the afe with the raceland 2.5" dps. They dynoed the same day same conditions and their hp and tq were idenitical. Now tell me how did the car with the so called inferior intake plus the inferior 2.5" dps make the exact same hp and tq? Even Evolution Raceworks fully built race 135i uses the afe intake. For the life of me I don't understand why people compare different dynos under different conditions from hundreds of miles away from each other. There is no way the afe losses power and there is proof on the this site, people just choose to read and believe what they want.

I use the Afe intake as well, and I'm very happy with the improved throttle response, much better "pick-up" at low revs over stock filter, the spooling sound of the turbos between 2-3k rpm and also how my engine bay looks when I open the hood.

I don't. I actually never had my car dynoed. Never got around to it. I have had a Steinbauer tune (conservative, about 60-70+ hp over stock) in for about a year. I always roadtest with my mechanics Vbox to see what gains I get, if any.

I'm not entirely sure you would necessarily "get the right picture" about different intakes performance at 75+ mph on a dyno stand, but I'm no expert on the matter.

I installed the aFe intake along with a new Wagner FMIC. I did some roadtesting though and gained 0.3s from 100-150 km/h and 0.7s from 100-200 km/h. I would expect those gains to have come primarily from the FMIC, but of course I have no way of knowing what did what.

I have read some conflicting posts about the aFe intake, some say they gain hp, some say they loose hp. FWIW my engine runs super smooth over the entire rev range, pulls hard up to 6500 rpm and has super "pick up" from low revs as well. I like the way it sounds, the quality seems fine, and I like the looks of it. Fact is I'm happy with how it works and looks, but I absolutely admit I have no idea whether I have lost or gained 5 hp because of it That may be "blasphemy" to a lot of guys in here, but hey, I'm happy

I am running the Stett CAI, it puts the filter behind the front bumper next to to the fog light. You can cut out the plastic behind the mesh to maximize air flow to the intake.

CAI's can't be beat. But they can be a bitch to install and worry about hydrolock etc. Have you had to avoid any low roads when it rained etc because of the CAI? Also, how long does it take you to put the CAI in (after the initial install which obviously takes longer due to bumper trimming). Thanks.

You just have to avoid driving through extremely deep puddles. It rains here occasionally but I never worry about hydro lock. We didn't have to trim the bumper for the initial install and I haven't changed/cleaned the filter yet.

Stett CAI is going in here shortly. Took me about a year to decide. All aftermarket Intakes make around the same HP. For me it came down to Cold Air vs Hot Air.

FBIS did a GREAT write up on this...
