+1. Add to the fact that it was a mother-in-law - which inevitably adds a degree of automatic frustration.

yes that would drive me nuts, but then again (not being sexist just a realist) most women near your car = disaster.
you must protect paint from all onslaughts. my girlfriends adorable and hugely frustrating (at times, others amazing) 5 year old saw my car which she fondly calls the Red Dragon, ran at it and smacked into it and rolled over the hood trying to hug it. I immediately picked her up by her jacket and told 'dont ever do that again...I know you ike the car but you dont touch peoples cars....ever' and then hugged her. that shit drove me nuts though. She didnt know any better, just an excited 5 year old.

Don't be harsh on the OP. You guys just don't understand what it is like to be OCD (not criticizing OP because I am OCD about my car
![]() OP, just tell her you appreciated the gesture, but it wasn't necessary for her to do that and you will take care of it yourself. If she really wants to make herself useful, get her to rake the leaves, and you can clean the bird crap off the trunk. ![]() |

The OP didn't say anything to her, and I doubt he would have. She was being nice, yes. It was nice of her. She will never know otherwise that he disagrees and she did more harm than good.
So there was no loss on her end, she's happy as a lark. I'd be pissed just the like the OP. |

Wiping some shit off your trunk with a paper towel? Really? That's it?
My girlfriend, who i love more than anything else, has put more dents/scratches/spilled coffee/etc. (not to mention doing $800 of damage to my mother's car when she opened the door into traffic without looking about 2 weeks ago) than i care to remember. In the end, a car is just a car and the majority of women will never fully understand the attachment us guys have to them. Just my .02

How about communication and education?
"Thanks MIL for trying to help, but paint finishes, especially black, are easily damaged. The paper towel scratched the paint and I repaired it." |
