Should I bring my bmw to a non-bmw repair shop for repair and maintenance (wheel-alignment, oil change and such) or is it a bad idea?

A great mechanic can do anything. If you want to keep getting ripped off by the Stealership be my guest, but I never go to the dealership unless its warranty related.
