2011 RemoteKey+, Alarm Options, Factory?
and onto the next project...
in a perfect world my car would be prewired for factory alarm system and id just buy a retrofit kit and get it over with. Everything stays nice and stock, and i get an alarm...solved. alas... our cars post 2010 (iirc) are not prewired for an alarm, i know mine is not (had the vin checked)... Where i keep the car parked while at work is monitored, 'secure access', relatively safe and out of the way, it would be a nice feature to have. especially the audio verification of locking since where i do park is very noisy. Its so noisy that if i got an alarm id likely prefer it to not have a glass breakage sensor since they are always going off. I could go with a aftermarket alarm, for some reason this path appeals the very least to me. I would like to have the option of locking the car quietly and NOT arming (my garage or driveway), and locking the car and arming with a chirp (at work ect). The other option is to 'pretend' i have an alarm and gain other features. If RemoteKey+ works with 2011's (im waiting to hear back), then everything stays stock, i get chirp (always i think), i'll get factory blinking mirror LED, also get added benefits of window roll up and some coding features. I feel like remotekey+ is prob least invasive. if anyone has been in my shoes and done something about it, or has input id love to hear, especially from late model owners.

Thats a very good point, Jay
I spoke with EAS briefly. They tell me RemoteKey+ is compatible with 2011's i might go this route. i just wish there was a way to selectively chirp or not, say by a double press of lock. always chirping would be kind of annoying... what can i say im picky

I ordered RemoteKey+ after talking over PM with a few people here who have them.
You can customize it to chirp only on lock. Which is close enough to what im looking for. You can put it in invisible mode for dealer visits and theres no wire cutting. I do have some warranty concerns because it clamping through some wire insulation but i guess thats good enough. That said, i'll achieve customizable chirp, blinking clown nose upon lock, window roll up/down, selective mirror fold, all from factory keyfob is what sold me, all without programing. Will report back once its in and all together. prob 2 weeks or so...

i'm also looking forward to hearing reviews of this from actual users....considering it for my e92 m3 (2011) which came without a factory alarm. if i can emulate it i'd be a happy camper.

It came out great I could not be happier.
I am using the BMW "beep" on lock, the mirror light flashes brightly and it's fully customizable. I can turn the beep off if I want to as well. The alarm has been fantastic, no false sirens. Here's my write up http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=457584
