Replaced OEM speakers and Subs car HOT.
I replaced the 2 x front 4" mids and 2 x 8" Subs (Personal preference, JBL and Kenwoods). DIY job, did everything correct I think, However when i switched CDs after playing it for 30 mins the CD was buring hot.... I ignored it and proceeded with it and after another 15min, that CD was just as hot.
The area around the whole front panel is hot hotter than normal (perhapse the deck heated everything up) then I swtiched off the deck, no radio, no cd, no ipod. nothing... will monitor and see, the in-car computer not pointing out any problems yet. Any pointer? |

Just some thoughts:
Did you match the impedances of the new speakers with the old ones? The overheating you noted may be the result of a different (higher) loading on the amp if the new speakers have a lower impedance than the original ones. The overheating could also result from a problem with a speaker crossover circuit if the speakers you installed have crossovers; or, perhaps a shorted wire (although you would have heard a speaker not working properly if that was the case, I would have thought). In any event, lets hope no significant damage was done...could be expensive |

how did it sound after the swap over?
if you're putting too much pressure on the internal amp, i am guessing it would shut itself off.

Again its personal preference, I can now hear the sounds (beats/bass and background tones) that i previously could not hear from my OEM speakers. Each Lady Gaga song sounds new now. The JBLs are slightly bass heavy, should have gone with some Jap speakers as mids. The kenwood subs are great given theres not much flat subwoofers in that size out there. 600W each both sound really good. The louder I play it the better.

Many Thanks! I have now located the heating issue and it was not due to the wiring or speaker upgrades at all. Its from the BMS powerbox which I have installed. I have it on an agressive map and was driving it spiritedly. I have now disabled the PBX and the engine bay area is no longer running as hot.
