Hey guys,

I've went through a lot of threads looking for an easy way to hardwire my 9500ix but I only see the fuse tap method. Is it possible to do it with the overhead console like this thread:

I'm afraid if I do something wrong my radar will short out or something of that sort! And believe me I did search the threads, so if anybody has any useful information, please do share!

I did the fuse tap method. I have had this setup for about 3 years now and it is rock solid. It took about 30 mins to install and is very clean. I'd go with this method rather than the overhead tap.

The fuse tap method is very easy and the safest. I just did it for myself recently.

I went across the rear of the dash and then under the dash into the center console and tapped in at the cig lighter, took 15 minutes and keeps your detector lower on the windsheild where it is more effective, just upgraded to from the 9500 to the IQ

Fuse tap for me. There was an unused (no fuse in it), ignition on mini fuse slot. I put a fuse in and tapped it.

A couple of pics. Depending on when your car was produced (month and year) an ignition on fuse slot may be in a different location. My car was produced 4/2007. The bentley manual has some pretty good diagrams for the differences in 2007-2009 production cars.

The first pic has more wires because I hooked up a laser interceptor as well. You can see the black ECU box for the laser interceptor at the bottom. It is velcro'd in front of the fuse panel.

Thanks for the pics Scottp999, those pics helped while I did it earlier today. You guys were right, it was the easiest install I did on my car! It looks super clean and no messy wire. Again, thanks for all the info!

I just hard-wired my Bel Sti. I'm using the visor clip and putting it under my driver's side visor. I live in an area where it's a sin to have a radar detector.

In terms of the 12v positive, I put mine into fuse 7 which for me is the HomeLink system. Works well. When the start button is pushed, it powers up. As soon as I push it again, it powers off.

I'd like to put in a toggle switch somewhere for it. I think I found a good spot, which I'd like to see if anyone knows what this is:

There's a dummy box with two wires running to it, but plugged into a molded piece of plastic. It's about an inch wide and maybe 2.5 long. This dummy box is located on the driver's side on the panel above the pedals that is removed with the hex screws. It's about where your left shin would be, and straight up of course. Anyone know what that is?
