It's been my experience that dealers will look to explain failure with the most convenient explanation. In your case the removed Procede, in my case the dealer said my "boost gauge" didn't let them connect to the DME, which is ridiculous. This is why I suggest people remove any potential excuse before service. Note, this MO applies to other areas of life: computers, home repair, health, etc. A tech tried to tell me my furnace was not working because my filter was dirty since he thought he heard someone say it had not been changed in a while, but when i showed him it was new he troubleshooted further and found a sensor was bad--he wanted to take the convenient explanation.

Even simple things like wheels: I had a Jeep dealer tell me my after-market wheels (OEM size, offset) were causing a vibration...put on stock wheels and they realized they screwed-up the UV joint install.

OP: IF Under this reasoning I would still recommend removing the Procede in future visits, even though they now know you have it. Note, I've not had this problem with specialty shops (e.g., BMW specialist, race shop, etc.), they tend to be better about troubleshooting.

I have disconnected the exhaust flap - could this be a problem?
The disconnected flap gives an error code, maybe software update needs an error free car for the update...?

Software programming always crashes, each time my car goes in it takes 4 or 5 attempts to get it programmed right. It's always a 2 day affair.
+1 That same thing happened too me as well, I had to bring it back to them a week later, they told me thier computer crashed and it would take a few days to fix it.

Sounds like the biggest piece of BS i've ever heard. So a BMW dealership somehow manages to fry ur ecu during an update that they should be more than capable of doing and ur responsible? WTF

Dealer says: "The flash update failed because you had some mods on the car."

Me: "Hahahaha...good one."
