Brodit/Proclip mount for GPS

Has anyone tried the Brodit/Proclip mount for a GPS? I'm most interested in the console mount:

http://www.brodit.com/productinforma...sortiment=s101

Is the mount easily removed? I won't remove it daily, just after a long trip (I only use a GPS for long trips).

Forget about easy removing.
In my previous car the Brodit's clip was very tight and firmly moutend. I was removing only a joint connection (something like that http://www.brodit.com/images/215114.jpg - depends the GPS model) between GPS holder and the dashboard part.
I think, you should choose other Brodit clip.
Maybe this one: http://www.brodit.com/images/853599.jpg
But the ventilation duct will be little bit covered.

What you're showing here is the holder that attaches to the clip. I want to remove the entire clip.

Yeah, that's another alternative, but I think it's uglier. I definitely would want to remove that clip when I'm not using the GPS. If that clip is easier to remove, then I'd get it. Again, I only use a GPS for an occasional long trip (once every few months), so I'd like to remove the whole thing when I'm not using it. But maybe you're right, it can't be done easily with the ProClip and I need to find another product, or just use the windshield mount (ugh!).

I sent them an e-mail with the same question.

Thanks!

I had my GPS mounted to dashboard on that way:
dashboard->Brodit proclip-> joint connection (from one side screwed to the Proclip)->oryginal GPS (PDA) holder.
I always left Brodit Proclip and joit connection.
So far I use windshield mount.

Thanks Rufio. One more question: On the installation instructions for any of the ProClips, they mention an adhesive. Is this adhesive used to help hold the ProClip to the dashboard, or to the joint connection?

Adhesive?

Once again (with photos). First photo with Proclip mounted in the dashboard's gap.

Second photo with joint connection. This part is fixed with 4 screws. That's my Brodit looks when I'am not using GPS.

And the last with orginal GPS holder. It perfectly fits to the plastic hooks in joint.

My suggestion. As you can see (in my previous car) the GPS was close to the steering wheel(too close). I think that in BMW the better place is near the right air duct. But what about visibility?
On the left side it easy to set anything or see. But I'm afraid it could be little bit too close. Especially when your screen is in horizontal position.

Thanks for the nice photos, Rufio!

I had a couple of proclips in my 530d - one for gps and one for ipod.

Some are fixed just by clipping around bits of trim - others also have a small adhesive pad. They work very well and can be removed without damage, but they are not 'easily removable'.

I'd say you would be better of with a windscreen suction mount if you want to mount and demount it regularly.

Thanks needforspeed, I think I am going to stick with the windshield mount for now, until I can figure out something better. I'm also considering a modification to the ashtray insert.

How to mount a GPS has also been discussed here.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15938

I have been thinking to use an angle bracket with the RAM mount for my Garmin Nuvi 360. Push it into the gap between the trim piece and the dash, like the following pics.

You could also try a vent mount - a colleague of mine had one and seemed happy with it:

I personally do not like the vent mount because it's blocking the outlet. Also trying to avoid hot/cold air blowing to the back for the GPS unit.

Nice mount, topracer!

In the Japanese page you referred to in the thread above, I translated the Japanese using google:

http://translate.google.com/translat...ari%26rls%3Den

It's still hard for me to decipher, but maybe you can figure it out.

It looks to me like you'll need more than the RAM angle bracket. I do like this bracket and maybe it can be pieced together with something else.

Hmmm, maybe I should have just ordered the Nav option

I e-mailed customerservice@proclipusa.com and asked the following about the mount in my original post:
Quote:
I'm interested in Item #833597, a vehicle mounting bracket for the
console of a BMW. I have two questions:

1) I want to be able to remove the entire mounting bracket (it's for a
GPS and I use the GPS infrequently). Is this possible, or is the
mounting bracket intended to stay in the car once installed?

2) I noticed the installation instructions mention that adhesive is
used. Does the adhesive stick to the vehicle interior, or is it for the
holder?
They replied promptly with:
Quote:
The mounting bracket is removable, it takes less than 1 minute to remove
the vehicle mount from the vehicle. The device holder or vehicle mount
adapter for your GPS would be screwed onto the vehicle mount and you
could remove them both together. The adhesive is used on the vehicle
mount but it is optional and you don't need the adhesive to secure the
vehicle mount to the vehicle.
So maybe this would be a good way to go. I like how this mount is fairly low and the power cord would be very easy to route.

What is the connector piece that's connecting the ram mount to the dash? Anyone have a make, model number?

I'd like to know, too.

But at least for my Garmin, it might be possible to modify the windshield mount to fit into the same gap in the dash. Cut off the suction cup at the hinge, and then grind the arm until it fits into the gap. If you mess it up, you're only out $26. Let me know how it goes

The proclip mounts are removable, but if you take them off regularly you WILL damage your trim in the end.
