I'm planing to bump it to 75-80% tomorrow, and see how that goes. Are you able to see actual values, I can't get that to work and most of the descriptions are in German....

Just got an update from BMS. They have around 50 JBDs in use now and testing is going very well. At the default 50-60% setting there have been no tuning related codes. But at the higher settings tuning codes are common. At 100% basically inevitable. It looks like BMW only wants you to have around 40whp more than stock similar to the N54s. So the suggestion is going to be to use the default setting and only increase the setting if you have access to a BT cable to clear tuner codes and are not adverse to annoyance lights on the dash.

Installed the JB this weekend - awesome! I've got it cranked up to about 75-80% (3:00) no fault codes yet. I'm all smiles and the mileage is clearly even better than before.

Sorry, Ron1n, don't want to sound like I'm ragging you, as I know you've done more than anyone regarding the D and performance upgrades. I'm surprised that BMS hasn't nailed down some'representative' figures instead of relying on customer-supplied values. Not knocking BMS either, just would be nice to see some concrete numbers at this point, even if they have to be qualified with "subject to change" as he gathers info from the beta testers.

My guess is word of mouth is sufficient for him right now, because everyone that's installed one has been pretty happy with the results (myself included).

Worst case, I'll have a variety of results sometime in October, but I'm not going out of my way to spend $200 just to get a dyno done.

FYI, dynos with torque #'s coming no later than next Saturday. I've got a dyno shop on the hook, and I'm driving up there to get stock, and tuned, #'s.

I assume these pulls were in a single gear without a shift?

If so we can do some math to figure out torque.

The JBD 335d is making peak power of 308 HP at about 90 MPH. Using the gearing numbers... http://www.roadandtrack.com/var/ezfl...840e44383a.pdf

The car would be in 4th gear, since 3rd tops out at 78 mph. 4th is 3.20:1 overall and maxes out at 104 mph @ 4600 rpm (seems to match the dyno curves).

So 90 mph is (4600 * 90/104) 3980 rpm in 4th.

HP = RPM*TQ/5252 so TQ = 5252*HP/RPM

At peak power you're making 406RWTQ.

On the stock car, peak power is 246 HP at about the same speed. So stock torque at peak power would be 324RWTQ.

That's 25% more torque at about 4000 RPM.

Peak torque is back at 1750 RPM stock. In 4th that's about 40 mph. It's hard to see on the graph but I estimate 115 HP at 40 MPH max. At that speed TQ = 345RWTQ. Stock it's about 107 HP and 321RWTQ. Both numbers seem low to me for a car that's rated at 425 TQ at the crank. A simple 25% more would be 530 TQ.

My guess is the JBD isn't producing an insane amount more torque, but it's keeping the torque much later in the RPM band for much improved power. The curves don't start to diverge until about 50 MPH, which would be 2200 rpm in 4th.

You could use this method to back out complete torque curves, but hopefully dyno charts will be out soon.

Are you are accounting for driveline losses in the calculations? It appears you are comparing the HP numbers at the rear tires from the dyno to the factory hp numbers, which are at the crank.

I was doing the calcs at the wheels since the dyno reports wheel horsepower. The same HP to TQ relationship holds whether it's at the crank or the wheels.

I talked about the comparison to stock rating at the crank because the wheel torque numbers at 1750 rpm seem low, even with drivetrain losses.

How much horsepower and torque do DEFAULT settings of the JBD add? I am not really interested in experimenting with increasing past default, I don't race on the track.

However would be nice to know, What settings would I need to get a 0-60mph of 5.4 seconds.

Im on my second 335d here in the UK (286bhp standard) and both have been mapped to 345 bhp and 540 lbft. No problems whatsoever with either car. The wifes X5 with the same engine has been mapped too. They are truly awesome torque monsters when mapped.

did anyone dyno? I know you can go to a diesel truck tuner and they can pull a tach signal via the OBD2 port...that's how they do it on my truck. Not sure if it would work a 335d.

Pick one up and dyno it for us. You won't be disappointed!

That is what i'm thinking, but this would be her car and she isn't shure if she wan't a diesel.

What are the gains to be made off of running straight pipes or non catted?
