agree plate on the dash doesn't cut it. i've known people that have gotten popped for that. also, if you're in a city where meter-maids ticket for no front plate, such as sf, you're going to get a ticket.

Haha LA is the proving grounds for the CHP and Central 590 is notorious for absorbing a bunch of boots! Idk why all those NorCal guys are scared of LA?
And yes be polite, might end up getting just a verbal.

You're right!! I'd be more afraid of Parking Enforcement than the PoPo.

Hey, Wino just noticed you're from Los Gatos. Last time I got pulled over for no front plate was in 2005. My ex and I were heading back to UCSC from SJ and got pulled over on the 17 just passed Los Gatos by CHP. I told him I was in the process for the CHP and ended up giving me a verbal for speeding and no front plate. Got lucky!!

Edit: Forgot to say I like Los Gatos. We would drive up there from SC for dinner every now and then.

Doesn't having the plate in the window violate another CVC about obstructing the view? So which is less of a fine, no license, or obstructing the window?

Yes It's another violation, same as tint. But I'd rather get no front plate than tint or obstructing. Reason for that is, if you get cited 2+ times for tint/obstructing, you're subject to getting cited for something else. I think its CVC 24004, which basically means you cant drive the car till you've fixed the violation.

if it's on your dash... and you get into an accident... it can fly towards you or a passenger...

now... what's worse, a $25 ticket and some time getting it taken care of, or risk of losing an eye, your head, or cutting your throat etc etc?

just don't put it at all, put it with a tow hook, drill holes, or do the grill thing...

Aren't the lower left and right corners exempt?

If a flying license plate worries you in case of an accident, tuck it between the seats or under the passenger floor mat.

No, it applies to the whole windshield. So heads up to those of you with stickers on your windshield.

I just found this CVC 26708 (b)

(3) Signs, stickers, or other materials that are displayed in a ( )1 seven-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield farthest removed from the driver, signs, stickers, or other materials that are displayed in a ( )1 seven-inch square in the lower corner of the rear window farthest removed from the driver, or signs, stickers, or other materials that are displayed in a ( )2 five-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield nearest the driver.

Those corner measurements are much smaller than a license plate.
