Just be prepared to return the car to stock if it should happen. Don't be a puss. Get the car. You'll be glad you did.

If you modify a car, you should be prepared for the consequences. IMHO, there is more than just a correlation between all the turbo issues, and tunes.

1. I've gotten the wastegate rattle only once in 50K miles. Took a day to fix at the dealer, never occured again.

2. I have heard several stories from people who had the rattle and it went away thanks to the Procede's wastegate rattle fix

It is common, tuning doesnt void the warranty if you just take it out

What year are you looking at?

Wastegate rattle is much more common on the early models (2007s). Later models had a revised wastegate design. Many of the 2007s that did have the problem had their turbos replaced under warranty by BMW.

If buying used have it inspected by BMW or a knowledgeable shop and you should be fine.

Wastegate rattle is more of a nuisance than a real problem anyways. I'd be more worried about the high pressure fuel pump, but BMW appears to be addressing that issue now too.

Probably around 28,000 miles or so. No turbo replacement. They had it on the lift for a little and told me they had to replace some thing... I still have the work order in my glovebox. No big deal though

Here's the technical service bulletin regarding waste gate issues:

http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/B111307g.htm

You might call the BMW dealer this car was serviced at to get a service history. Always a good idea!

If you're planning to tune the car and the car has the rattle, then have the car software updated (covered by warranty). If updated software does not work, then the dealer will have the turbos changed. This all covered under warranty.

It's true about '07s having to be more problematic than '08s. Either way, you should not allow this dissuade from buying this car. Just enjoy it.

Stop wasting time and just get the car. LoL. I got the Wastegate rattle in mine. So I took it to the dealership to get checked. My SA Eric said, being that the Turbos and Wastegates are one single unit, they would just replace the entire Turbo setup with a new one under warranty. So four days later, new Turbos, Wastegates, Piping, etc. Warranty FTW!
