N54 Engine
i tried doing some searching here and google...but maybe im not using the right key words..
how much power can the n54 hold in general. As in max boost on stock turbos. how much power can the block hold??

From what I understand, stock boost will be around 16-17 psi at the edge of the turbos' efficiency range (full bolt on). People have pushed them further, but utilize meth injection to relieve the resulting higher intake temps. The engine is also limited by the stock fuel system (which is also band-aided with the use of meth to provide additional "fuel").
As far as the physical limits of the block and pistons, I don't THINK anyone has surpassed them yet (with people running mid and possibly high 400s rwhp). |

you mean lower intake temps with meth? doesnt meth make the intake air cooler allowing it to be more dense to fit more air in the cylinders?
Rbturbos with pump and meth managed 473whp and 468torque on snow tires @ 19 psi that seems to be pushing it up there really nice

- denser air (more oxygen for the reaction) - lower temps to prevent knock - additional fuel because the stock fuel system on the N54 is inadequate at higher power levels With the upgraded turbos you mentioned above, the turbos are able to push higher pressures more efficiently resulting in a cooler, denser intake charge - thus, making more power safely. For example, if you were running the exact same setup in two cars each running 19 psi with the only difference being stock vs upgraded turbos, the upgraded turbos will make more power. I would never expect to see numbers that high on the N54 without upgraded snails. i don't think the snow tires make that much of a difference on a dyno... |
