Oil Cooler Release: Got my response today

Got a call from BMWNA today with my approval for the oil cooler. Just received the fax with the General Release to be signed/notarized so they can order the oil cooler kit to be sent to my dealership. This will be free of charge. At the moment I haven't had any overheating issues but I guess since it's free I should install it. Has anybody that contacted BMWNA had a positive response as well?

I called them back and they said the release is basically just an agreement to keep it confidential and all but it does not interfere with warranty and service, they even told me that no dealership has access to that paper or knowledge of it. It's just between us and BMWNA. If it's BS or not I don't know. My car is leased so they better fixed if they break anything. At this point I do not even know if I'll get that installed. I'm just afraid of the summer here in FL and my car going on limp mode in the middle of the day.

I believe lots of folks have gotten to this point. What I'm waiting to hear is someone actually getting an oil cooler installed. I'm not sure how the kits can all be on back order if no one has actually gotten one installed yet. Hopefully they will do the installs sometime before it gets real hot.

Holy****. So it's up to that point now... I haven't heard too many people commenting on the release form. I don't really care at this point since I just got my car and i'm still enjoying and now overheating issues. Whenever it comes, i'll think about installing.

How can BMW continue to crank out e9x cars daily with the sport package and oil cooler if it's on back order? IMO, BMW should retrofit the cars that were supposed to have oil coolers before installing them in new cars.

The cost of pissing off a few unlucky owners is insignificant compared to the cost of idling a production line!

So, technically the oil cooler is not on back order.

The oil cooler we want installed is a retro fit so I think it would be manufactured slightly different than one that was installed at the factory. Just a thought.

Having parts to build a car and having the same parts for after market is two different things. There is an allotment for a certain amount of parts for building cars. BMW's problem is the demand for the 335i is much higher then BMW ever thought. The part supplier can't keep up with the demand of BMW for the oil cooler right now. I want the cooler as bad as every one else. If I don't see my cooler installed in my 335i in one month I will be one unhappy camper. I have to trust what I have been told by BMW on this issue.

Even if BMW were only building exactly as many 335i's as originally planned, the sub-supplier for the oil cooler might not have any additional capacity. For the retrofit kit, if even one part is the bottleneck, the kit is incomplete and can't be installed. I'm not surprised there is a wait.

I am still pissed off, since I haven't even been offered the retrofit -- If they offered me the retrofit, I'm willing to wait a reasonable length of time so BMW can get the kitting logistics set up, or to find alternate suppliers, but I am unwilling to accept a "let's see how loud they scream" approach.

Interesting, how did you request it? In a phone call or in writing? If you did it in writing, please copy/paste what you wrote. Thanks!

I visisted my BMW dealership today to check on my order and to see how many 335's had the oil cooler.
they had 5 there but only one had the oil cooler. It just came off the truck it and it had the oil cooler.
I'm assuming that since it had the oil cooler and mine has just left the factory that mine will too.

Yours should be fine, according to BMWNA, every 335 that was produced starting march should have it.

does the letter you got from BMWNA have instructions on how to install the oil cooler? i would very much appreciate it if you could scan the letter and send it to me. please pm me if you'd like to keep it private and i can send you my email address. I'm trying to get an oil cooler installed on my car and I want to get it asap. I've noticed my oil temp would reach very high temperatures already. Too close for comfort already. Thanks buddy!
