Laser Allignment

Having had my allignmnet done at chemix these are the results..

Most of them are out, but only slilghtly out, i was quoted £90 + VAT to have the adjusments done, the technicaian said it was nothing to worry about and not essential to have the work done.
What do you guys think?

He also said the car will naturally pull slightly to the left. Is this true?

In the UK most cars naturally pull to the left for 2 mian reasons...

1) Roads camber to left for water run off, so cars will follow the raod

2) Tyre wear + roundabout. I live in a roundabout infested town and so there is quite a bit of wear that after 3/4 life of the tyre results in wear that can pull the car to the left, most noticeavle on wide low-profile tyres.

Obviously there are many type of roads and driving conditions but the 2 above IMO result in a minor amount of left pull.

Seems to have used the wrong profile - "All models with All Wheel Drive" Unless you have an imported "x" model.

Ditto what quattro says - they're used the 4wd profile, not rwd which I assume yours is as a UK car? Having said that the 4wd profile could be the same.

The amounts look low, but on the other hand all the "reds" are out of tolerance - and some mount up to have a larger end effect.

Most significantly, the toe in at the front effectively has both wheels pointing to the left, with the resultant steering tolerance 3x greater than the permitted level (-0.09 vs -0.03).

3x out of tolerance sounds like it should be a lot to me - does it steer to the left noticably?

E9x are very sensitive to wheel alignment and I have had an adjustment made when everthing was marginal and the difference was night and day. After alignment every setting was on optimal not just in tolerance
There is a lot of red figures which is outside manufacturers spec.
I would have it checked for 2wed as previous posters have mentioned. If out of spec then adjust. It is well worth doing.

It's important to get it done on a proper machine, not just a standard laser align machine the tyre fitters use.

BMSport in Bexley have such a machine linky that they setup their race cars with and they checked mine at Christmas, it was out but not by much... but as my car needed a new suspension something when it was serviced end of Jan, BMW did a full KDS and got everything spot on. These machines are so sensitive if the roller shutter is open and there's a breeze, the machine registers the movement! The rear end is now much more planted, so even a slight change can make a big difference.

had mine done on a hunter machine & like yours quite a few were out but not by a lot so had it done anyway

cost about £100 & the guy spent well over an hour to get them right so I hope this will pay for itself over the next 2 sets of tires as the runflats were marked worn on the insides & hopefully will get more life out of the tires before the worn edges become potentially dangerous.

The garage should find out what model of car you have and then sets the tolerances etc. I only paid £48 for a full "Hunter" alignment including adjustments last year, so shop around.

mine is e92 335d so might not be relevant to yours

it says "E92 - 2006 all rear wheel drivemodels:without AFS ( active front steering) : sports suspension (with lower ride height) 19" wheel"

not worth me comparing the figures for you as they may not match your car & dont match those figures posted (certainly not the 4 wheel drive readings) . There are a lot of reds on your figures TBH. I thought I had more than I did but I only had 2 red readings & two yellows. All green after the adjustments.

One thing he did do was set my car up so that he took some of the negative cambers out to try & reduce the inner tread wear..

I think he's talking out of his arse!

See my hunter chart below. I didn't bother having any adjustments made here, but waited until I had the suspension fitted then had it done somewhere else.

Check your ranges against mine, they seem wrong.

Front camber is not adjustable, so if yours is out it must be due to a bump or crash.

Also your rear toe-in is way to much, this will make the steering feel slow and numb as the back want to go straight on when you steer!

Getting rid of excess rear toe-in made an amazing difference to the way my car handled.

Ask for them to be set in spec.

I had mine adjusted at wheels in motion in chesham and whilst mine says e92, RWD, 19" wheels it also says active front steering which clearly I don't have. So do I need to go back and get it checked it again?
