i have a spare key.. i don't know what this is from, but its not my car. its missing the little bmw emblem but you can get a new one for a few cents on ebay.

I'm not sure I understand the value of this sale.

I thought there were only 10 unique keys possible to each car.

i was under the assumption that these can be re programmed..

am i wrong?

pretty sure these cannot be reprogrammed, but you could use the case if urs is all jacked up

Yeah, double check... My understanding of how the key system worked is that each car has the ability to have 10 unique keys, and they must be ordered through BMW.

I was investigating how to get only the actual "key" part (not the fob) and I stumbled upon that information.

Could have been old or wrong information though.

Even if the key fob may or may not be reprogrammed, the actual key (with metal for the door and trunk) would not fit on another car. That's just a key like any other key right?

I just went through this with my dealer..
THE KEY IS NOT RE-PROGRAMABLE!

I had to buy another one for over $300 AND pay $50 for the comfort access portion

they program the key when its ordered (as another said only 10)
i didnt even need my car present it was ready to go at pickup
