Looking for info on Wavetrac lsd in 2009 a/t

I have been doing a lot of research into to getting a lsd on my 2009 BMW 335i sedan a/t.

It seems to me this is a great second mod for the car, I already have the cobb tune.

Really, this car should come with a dang lsd at least as an option from BMW. I'm sure that BMW does this is so that it doesn't eat into M3 sales. But what is the point of having a sports sedan with a ton of power if when you start putting it through its paces all the power is going to the tire with the least traction.

What I would like to know is, has anyone installed this on their car in this particular model year?

What parts are required?

As I understand it all a/t after 2007 have bolt on differentials so no install kit should be required.

I always thought that 2007's have the bolted diff. while the later models have the welded diffs? Someone correct me if I'm wrong?

Auto from 03/07-09/07 were welded.

You need to have wavetrac, or the vendor lookup your vin and they can determine it.

Welded makes it much more expensive, have the vendor look up your vin. Hopefully you have bolted.

I don't think that is an accurate statement.

A normal shop that knows what they are doing will charge between 6-8hrs to do a swap of the internals of the bolted diff.

Wavetrack offers, for around $650 and shipping, a complete core with the diff already swapped/work complete. You then just need about 2hrs of local shop time to swap the pumpkin and ship your core back.

Either way, you are looking at around 8hrs time/labor and the cost equal out about the same.

The difference is, good luck getting Wavetrac to turn this for you in under 3 months time.

Good thing with bolted, a local shop that knows what they are doing, shimming etc...can get it done once the part arrives, same day. So a matter of weeks from purchase to completion.

Can't say that with the core swap program with Wavetrac.

Now I'm really confused.

I called wavetrac the other day and they said they do not have a lsd yet for automatics after 07-09. I don't get it. They person on the phone said that they should be coming out in a month or two.

Like I mentioned in the PM, they used mine for development. It was JUST released by them. I haven't even received mine yet.

I don't know where Wavetrac got their info or you just copied it wrong.

Auto from 3/07 to 9/07 is definitely not welded in our experience with 160+ Quaife and 30+ Wavetrac units sold to date.

Harold, I just visited your website and wanted to make sure this is correct.

Automatic cars 9/2007 and later use a welded ring gear with a 3.46:1 ring/pinion gear set.

My car is a 2010 E92 Steptronic so I would opt for the Quaife final drive unit for ease of installation. The price is $1995 + $1000 core exchange for my carrier. Shipping, fluids and installation extra.

Wavetrac does not yet produce a differential kit for late-model automatics.
