Clutch Delay Valve (CDV) Mod Q's

Hey guys, I want to get rid of the CDV on my '07 335i. What is the best way to acomplish this? Who sells the correct part? Or should I just remove the part and install the hose on the slave? Haven't really looked at it yet, just read a bit about it online and know I want to do it. I always knew something was screwy lewy with this cars clutch. Thought I was loosing my mind, but it's just a BS CDV.

take the cdv off and drill out the extra parts that cause the restrictions. just make sure that absolutely no fragments are left behind. better to keep that piece in there than putting the hose directly on. its what i did on my e60 but have been too lazy to do it with the e92 due to the bleeding required.

if not that then just order a hollow one online, they are cheap enough any way.

The easiest thing is to just take out the part and reconnect the hose. Done. Others have drilled theirs out or did the two-for-one deal, but really, what is going to happen with your clutch. I researched tonnes of posts on this before doing mine to figure out what was best for me so the decision was easy. Shifting was marginally better once complete but I have not noticed a big improvement.

I do all my own maintenance, so I'd prefer to just remove the CDV completely. Not worried about the dealer zinging me for it. I didn't know if it went back together without any extra parts/clips etc. From what I gathered it does and I don't need anything to remove it other than brake fluid to bleed the system.

just use a household drill and make the hold bigger, when you look at the CDV you will realize why the clutch is "delayed"

I noticed a big improvement because I drilled out the whole cdv orifice

Must do mod..

Can you guys confirm that I can remove the CDV and just attach the lines back together without buying any parts?

You could buy the M3 "CDV" which doesn't have the restrictor. You could also take out your CDV and connect it directly but the best option is to buy a new CDV and then pop out the restrictor using a hammer and a punch. Install it and no one can even tell from the outside that it's a gutted CDV.

It makes a huge difference, especially in the 1-2 shift.

Correct, you don't have to drill anything like other members have said. You have two options.

1. Remove the CDV completely.

2. Punch out the resistance, stick a small punch or allen key into the small end of the CDV. Tap it with a hammer lightly and a small plastic piece and a small metal clip will fall out of the larger end of the CDV. Doing this still makes it look stock and has the same benefit as removing the CDV all together.

Your choice.

Is this the same as getting the modified CDV from burger for $29? I am asking because I would rather buy the part than to modify it myself.

Samething, this mod is soooo simple you should do it yourself. If you don't feel comfortable tapping out a piece of plastic then I'm willing to bet you won't be doing the install yourself either.

So when your mechanic has your car on the hoist and removes the CDV have them punch it out, in all honestly if the mechanic can't punch it out they should not be touching cars.

My 4 year old nephew can punch out a CDV - Ask me how I know...

lol, just jam an allen key in there and push. Mod done.

You can connect the line directly to the trans without the CDV, but I left mine in so techs dont suspect anything unless they take it apart.

Planning on doing this. Is it possible to do it without bleeding the clutch again? I've got some plastic clamps that should work pretty well on the clutch line.

It is possible, btw .. I don't plan on doing this anymore .. so I have a modified valve that I bought online a while ago .. I will let it go to anyone for 15+shipping ... (which would be cheap)

Let me know!

I've done this a year ago. Clamped hose, took out valve, pushed out internals (you don't even need a hammer), and re-assembled.
You've got to be joking if you think you can do this w/o bleeding. In doing this you open the clutch line at its lowest point. Air does get in. But if you clamp the line, and rework the CDV quickly, it only takes a few pumps of the pedal. I did it w/o a second person, a bit more work but not that difficult.

I bled it twice, the second time after one week of driving

do it! It's great. I used a c-clamp and a wrapped the line in cardboard to protect it. Just be careful. It's cake.

Yeah, sorry guys but I'm not clamping the hose with a vise grip or any such thing. That causes damage to the hose. That's like 101 brake technician school. Never clamp hoses. I will be picking up some BMW brake fluid to bleed the system after I remove the CDV completely.
