Charging an iPhone with 6FL
I just wanted to call attention to something that Delta335i brought up in a thread in the Canada forum, as I think the info is too important to bury in a different thread.
The charging problem with the iPhone3G3/4 is now solved for anyone with the 6FL "Y Cable". As many had already guessed, the stereo couldn't provide enough current through the Y Cable to charge the newer iPhones, and it took a so-called "W Adapter" from BMW to supply enough current. The part number for the adapter is 61-12-2-167-663 and it runs 107.50 CDN for the part. In Canada, this adapter is not covered under warranty and the Canada corporate call center can't do anything to help you get this adapter. They refuse to admit that it's a problem with the car, and even go so far as to say that the 6FL doesn't provide a charging function and it wasn't advertised as such, despite the charging working fine on the older iPhones. Their only suggestion is to go back to the dealer that sold you the car and beg for the part and they might goodwill it. At least one other Canadian was successful at doing this, though I wasn't. Glad the problem is solved, but I'm furious that I'm expected to pay to fix this problem myself. |
