BMW Power Kit? Who has this installed?

BMWPOWERKIT* Each $2,134.78 $2,134.78
$1,675.00
OEM BMW Performance Power Kit for N54 Engines (135i & 335i,xi)

The BMW Performance Power Kit for the BMW 135i and BMW 335i redefines engine performance. The effects of the modifications to the engine tuning parameters include:

* Increased torque of 317 ft-lbs (manual trans) or 332 ft-lbs (auto trans), available from just 1,500 rpm
* Increased maximum output* of 320 horespower (see graph image)
* Faster acceleration from 0 to 75 mph

Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions remain the same as the standard model. The warranty validity and vehicle quality are not compromised in any way. To deal with the extra heat generated as a result of the engine modifications, an additional radiator, air intakes, and more powreful fan for the main radiator are incorporated. Vehicles produced up to and including 2/2008 get a new DME (MSD81). Please contact your local BMW dealership for labor times and installation/coding quotes.

**Must provide vin when ordering

***Must be installed at your local BMW dealership

****MUST notify us if you've retrofitted a different bumper to your vehicle other than the stock bumper

*****Standard Parts Warranty applies.

******Fits N54 equipped vehicles produced before 3/2010. (E82/88 135i, E90/92/93 335i/xi). Must have option code S840 (increased top speed limiter).

Just trying to see if this is a good value (warranty wise). Not trying to go the JB3/JB4 route.

Anybody with a review on this product?

Equivalent of OP asking what time it is and you telling him digital clocks have more functions and is cheaper than high-end analogs.

So basically, stick to the damn topic.

BMW Performance kit adds additional cooling capacity (another oil cooler and more powerful fan for coolers), a new ECU (for pre-2008 cars) along with some moderate hp/torque. If you can get it discounted (some dealers give BMW club members 10-20% discount on parts and labor), it'd be a good baseline to use for additional mods. Additional power adds heat and having the ability to handle the higher loads is safer than just adding a gadget to increase boost and fuel maps to gain more power.

Interesting, I have a MSD81 (don't have the perf. kit, they simply replaced it). I wonder what the difference is with the MSD80, except to prevent tampering/modifications....

I have it (in fact I have upgraded to GIAC Stage 2 since then), along with few other guys on this forum. It's very nice and the power gains can be felt. A good first-time tune, which also upgrades your cooling hardware. But after installing it you will sooner or later need more power. However I don't regret it, there is a lot of cooling hardware and also if the dealer reflashes your ECU for some reason it will always reflash with the Power Kit software. It also has good reselling value when you decide to sell your car.

I was the first to have it installed on the forum, here is my review:

What a coincidence...........same output as 335is! I think thats all they did. Installed power kit to keep interest up while the replacement 3 is being designed...........also used up unsold power kits!

Of course that's what they did. I didn't realize this was still news to some folks.

The 335is is simply a 335i with many of the BMW Performance parts bolted on.

Though I don't think the extra power is worth the kit cost + labor, if I were pining for more power in a non- IS N54, this is the route I'd go as long as I were still concerned about warranty issues. Otherwise, I'd go with one of the popular aftermarket tunes. In all honesty, extra cooling is good and all, but unless you're tracking it, it won't kill you to not have it. I wonder how many hours they'd charge you for this. BMW labor is not cheap.

It's the same power output as the 335is in all but one area, it does not have the torque overboost function.

This was the main reason, no overboost, I passed on this BMW mod and went with a Dinan S2 (which also keeps intact the warranty period).

I was able to get mine included with my new car. Dealer said it was a BMW promotion and took it off the price of the car. I think it's great but you have to have the Performance exaust which is part of the full package to really enjoy it.

Good job. In hindsight, I should have pushed for a deal when I ordered mine.

Would be interesting to find out if some one has paired the OEM Performance Power kit mod with a Dinan tune. If you know of any reviews of both of these mods paired, do post a link.

There's a few 335is's (factory PPK) with aftermarket tunes. I know of at least one Procede and a couple JB4's around the forums here. Both the Jb4 and the Procede have targeted boost algorithms so performance is equal to that of a standard n54, but with the addition of some cooling bits.

Out of that power kit I am only installing the extra rad that goes in the driver side wheel well, and everything else is the DCI, JB4(when it is available). I could not justify paying all of that money for the little gain you get from it.
