Lease Q: Refund on unused miles?

I'm currently leasing an '06 330i, 15000mi/yr for two years, question is...is it possible to get a refund and switch the term to say...12000mi/year?

Doubtful. Would require a new lease contract.

No...You'd have to prepay your lease in full, and/or pay for add'l miles up front.

I don't know if you can do this in the states... but I know a guy who always leases bimmers and uses very little mileage. He lists the car for sale for more than the residual and when he finds a buyer he brings them to the dealer on the return date and they apply the difference above the residual towards his new car.

If you use just a small amount of the miles, you can get up to $400 credit towards any other negative adjustments when you turn the car in. For me, my rear tires are shot but I am 23,0000 miles under at my term. So BMW says I will most likely qualify for the max of $400 credit which will offset my bad tires.

I have heard on a board that someone got a check for the delta, but that is not what BMW NA told me directly. Just a credit up to $400 to be used only on lease turn in negative adjustments for damage et al.

usually if you use the same dealer and get a new car from them at lease turn in, the dealer looks the other way if you're over on milage or have normal wear issues. Obviously if you come in WAY over miles then you might have a problem but a couple thousand is usually ok.

ok here's the deal... when you get your lease you get it for x amount of miles. if you get 10k and find you are using more then you can buy more miles (I think 6 months in, but you may need to be a year in). at that point you buy them at a reduced rate (.15/mi). those additional miles are refundable should you not use them.
