I just finished enabling my Rear Fog Lights. Had a bit of trouble getting the clips off the rear fog button to let the button out but got it with a help of a friend. I used a crayon and put a nickel on top without glue and it works perfect. Best Free Mod

another success story (2011 E93)
just wanted to note another success story with my 2011 E93 (which had all the necessary pieces already in place and just required clipping the plastic flashing that stops the rear fog button from being depressed).
couple of tips: 1. to remove the wood trim panel above the light switch i took a US dime and quarter and a small lens cleaning cloth (polyester type for anti-glare glasses) and fashioned a tool with the cloth wrapped around the coin, first with the dime inside and then the quarter) to create a small padded pry bar. working on the inside corner (nearest the gauge cluster) i was able to gently create enough space with the dime to then work the quarter and eventually get the vent piece off (remember to work both sides or you'll be more likely to crack the vent - you want it to come straight off) 2. getting the switch assembly apart was simple but i also had some trouble removing the bottom rear-fog button. ultimately i found the key was to gently pull on the button from the outside of the switch, putting a bit of pressure between the button and the facing of the switch (where there is a gap) while using a small screwdriver to release one of the internal button clips - there was a small click and the button was then at an angle - i then used the small screwdriver to remove the second clip (still with gentle pressure pulling on the outside of the button) and viola! i was going to use a small needle nose pliers to remove the plastic tabs but decided to go with the knife method and it was very clean indeed but be careful to cut -away- from your fingers!!! you're working on a small irregular piece and you'll need all your fingers to shift! as others have said, my saab's and volvo's have both had rear fog lamps which proved to be most useful in both fog and the driving rains we sometimes get here in northern cal. glad to have the function back! |

So cool. I did this on my 2009 E90. Was extremely hopeful that I would have the second "white piece" since 2010 and 2011 owners did. Unfortunately I did not. Rigged it up from a nickel and a wire nut. Super glued some layers of packaging plastic to the nickel to ensure that it would be insulated in the event it came into contact with any electrical connections. I also used this to increase the thickness of the nickel so that it fit in there perfectly snug.
So worth the 30 minutes and $.05, but definitely not worth the $50+ dollars for the OEM part. I'm not sure when I'll ever use the rear fogs, but it's cool that I have them at least. Thanks OP! PS. I'm sure that the dealer could provide the rear fog button from the switch only. Could just say it popped off and that is all you need. No LED in my switch for the rear fog, either. Personally I like the stealth switch. |

Did the mod yesterday. Used an old credit card and highlighter cap glued together. Works great. Love the mod.
Thanks.

Will this work with cars with Halogen headlights also?
I was wondering if anyone has tried or done this mod with cars that have halogen headlights? I was looking at Turner motorsports which sell the german switch. According to them this switch will only work on cars with Xeon/Hid lights along with the rainsensor. THis has me wondering.
I have Halogen and I do have the rainsensor. |

Just did this mod and used some LEGOs to replicate the white piece. Thanks to the OP for the DIY and thanks to everyone for all the ideas!

Took a stab at this tonight to check it out, did it in a starbucks parking lot.
Fairly easy to do once its done once. I didnt actually do the mod yet, I Just need to find something clean to replicate the white piece as I have nothing to work with off the top of my head. Second removal should be cake though now that I did it once. I did enable the rear fogs just pushing in the white pieces of on the microchip board. So cool haha Thx! |

Well I took my switch apart, I was able complete all the testing needed but it does not work with the Halogen systems. I did get the dashboard to indicate to light up but no euro lights came on. Also the light in the switch did not light when I activated the euro portion of the switch. I did not cut any clips etc because I was able to test everything with the switch openned up. Unless it can be coded in I will have to abandon this totally.
